I'm a football referee in UK (non professional before you ask) and I want to know what is being said in this video as to why the guy gets sent off. It's really quite funny and amazing to see. But as a ref I want to know WHY he was sent from the dugout for this. I can't understand a word of what the guys in the studio are saying so wonder if they explain the reason he was sent off.

The ball was kicked out by the Yokohama Marinos goalkeeper during a J League fixture and Stojkovic, dressed in jacket, tie and everyday shoes, instinctively fired back a first-time volley

"One of my players had just missed a great chance, an easy volley. I just couldn't believe it. When the ball came towards me I couldn't stop myself. I've scored from about 50 metres out before and by doing this I was able to show my players the technique for doing it. The whole stadium applauded."

However, Stojkovic ended up being sent off.

"The referee congratulated me but said he had to apply the rules," added Stojkovic. "As play had been stopped (a Yokohama player was down injured in the penalty area) I shouldn't have taken the shot."

Pretty sure the dugout(anybody in there for any official business) isn't allowed to kick the ball or do anything disruptive in a similar manner, at all. It doesn't matter if he "scored" a goal or not, he kicked the ball without the intention of giving it to a player...as in a throw-in situation.

Non-players such as managers and coaches may not be cautioned or sent from the technical area in the above manner. However, according to Law 5 the referee "takes action against team officials who fail to conduct themselves in a responsible manner and may, at his discretion, expel them from the field of play and its immediate surroundings." This usually results in the expelled individual watching the game from the stands. In some cases, the non-player may have to wait inside the dug out or in the dressing room if being in the stands would cause anger. For example, if a team official has an altercation with a match official which appears to inflame the supporters, that person would need to be removed from the arena completely.

The penalty for a sent-off coach or manager is normally a ban from being in the dugout or in the locker-room for a certain number of matches thereafter. The particular football association determines the length of the ban.

Being a ref I still don't understand why he was sent off. The ref has already stopped play before the keeper kicks the ball out (which they are instructed to if they feel a bad injury may have occurred). So the ref has to restart the game with a drop ball. If there was a foul on the injured guy then it's a free kick. Either way the ball has to go back to where the ref is. It's not a throw in. So the manager is simply returning the ball as fast as possible in an amazing manner. If he'd caught it and rolled it back gently would he have been dismissed? I think not.

I don't think there is a specific rule about this situation. But from my perspective, there isn't any difference between taking a shot with a moment of joy or just randomly kicking the ball with anger. if it went in or not, is irrelevant. If you allow this today you've got to allow it tomorrow when a manager gets pissed off and randomly blasts the ball.

Again, personal opinion but I am almost completely sure that this is how the referee made that decision. Awesome moment though

Yeah it is pretty impressive. Specially as he was in the dugout and had to run out to do it in a split second. In suit and shoes as well.

Also the referee doesn't see him do any of it. If you watch closely the ref is running to the injured player with his back to the half way line. He never sees any of it. So it must be some shitty linesman that calls the refs attention. Really bad call.
