Looking for some gaming headphones; Xbox 360 only.

Hey, didn't know where else to post this but I figured here was my best bet.

Anyways, I've decided lately that I want to purchase myself some nice headphones for my Xbox 360 due to late night marathons and what not. Unfortunately, I've only seen and heard about Turtle Beaches and really nothing else for Xbox 360 gaming.

People are telling me the Turtle Beach x31s are perfect, and at $100.00, the price seems reasonable. But I also read they don't support Dolby Digital 5.1, but Stereo instead. Can you really even tell the difference while you use headphones between the two?

My price range is fairly low, somewhere around $90.00 - $150.00, so if anyone can give me some pointers, it would be appreciated.

The more expensive turtle beach headphones are useful because the 5.1 gives you a real sense of where people are around you, making it easier to react. Because it's only in stereo, you'll hear whether they're to the left or right of you, but not if they're ahead or behind your view

The effect is subtle, and I always found 5.1 in headphones gimmicky. The true benefit of turtle beach headphones is that they can boost or lower game/voice volume levels depending on which is loudest, so you can always hear both at the same time.

I've heard of adapters which basically do the aforementioned, but allow you to plug in any headset and mic you want, which might be a better deal (you'd be able to upgrade the headphones at a later date, or swap them out for in ear if you find those more comfortable, etc.)

I'm going off the basis that you mention turtle beaches, therefore you want a headset. If it's just the headphones you're after then there are plenty of places, such as HeadRoom: Stereo Headphones, Amps & DACs, Wireless, Noise Canceling, Ear Canal, Earbud, Audio Cables & Accessories that'll give you the low down on the best quality headphones in your price range.
