Given the situation my ex girlfriend's mom isn't mentally unstable (3 years of proof and her own daughter believes this) and loves to be irrational and loves to brag I wouldn't have even gotten in trouble in the first place.

Why in the hell would you hire a lawyer to fight a petty misdemeanor? The people suggesting to get a lawyer are essentially suggesting you to take a substantial amount of cash for most 20 year olds and throw it in the toilet to flush.

I'm assuming getting the lawyer was presented as a way to keep him from saying something stupid in the courtroom, since the lawyer can speak for him so that pwning the judge is assured.

That and if he was arrested without a warrant, they could have just subpeona'd him, without probable cause or evidence then he can turn around and sue the state and complainant for damages.

A night in jail over text messages and a phone call ( if he's telling the truth ) is pretty dramatic and cruel and unusual punishment. You don't go to jail if someone wants to serve a restraining order against you.

Considering he stormed out of the thread when he didn't hear what he wanted, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to storm out of the courtroom during his case. Hearing a lawyer telling him to get his shit in line might actually be well worth the money.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but at the time of the incident he stated he was 18 (or older) and she was still 17. If I remember right doesn't matter if they dated, it would still be considered harassing a minor, so that might be the reason for it being taken seriously.
