RI man's highway suicide causes backups, trauma - Boston.com

Several motorists reported being traumatized after watching a man leap to his death onto Interstate 95 in a suicide that caused traffic to be diverted for hours.

Rhode Island State Police Captain Kenneth Marandola says the man jumped onto the northbound lanes of I-95 from a highway overpass in Providence early Monday morning after crashing his car and then running up an embankment and onto a bridge.

He was struck by at least three cars after landing on the highway.

Marandola says several people, including a female passenger in the man's car, were treated and released for what he described as "emotional distress."

Marandola says the reasons for the suicide were not immediately clear.

When the local tv news reported this one, the on-site reporter claims the guy didn't die from the jump (which was about 50 feet) and that he sat up just as the first car hit him head-on. Crazy shit...
