You could easily implement video assistance in football, by using it only in penalty area and for ambiguous goal. Like we did for rugby.

Exactly! All of the world's sports are using video review. Not to replace the refs, but to assist them since the fans get to see the result no matter what the ref decides...
Cricket, Rugby, NFL, Ice Hockey all have video review... The comparison to NHL ice hockey is the best one, as they still have rather articulated uses and it never gets in the way of the flow of the game...
pretty sure what he meant was seeing rather or not the ball fully crossed the goal line, and ONLY that...
I could live with that.
Like, seriously, it's rather silly that this would put the thought of replay into someone's mind.
No sport I've seen has allowed replay to affect penalty calls in any way.
There is no room for replays in decisions, that's correct. However there needs to be at least 2 additional "linesman", assistant referees on the field.
Which will probably be implemented by 2012. UEFA is already experimenting this in Europa League group matches.

I have no idea what kind of "soccer" you're playing, if that's half of it.
It should not be "ok" for players to "get away with shit like this". FIFA is always making so much noise about Fair Play this and Fair Play that, and yet, we have players choking one another at corners, defenders who can't keep their hands off striker's shirts, and hell, sometimes even the trunks, not to mention all the shit that goes on that the camera never catches. All this shit detriments the sport, which at this point, stops being a sport, and becomes a competition to see who can commit the most amount of irregularities without being caught. Players know the rules, and referee positioning, and they're taking advantage of this, in the worst possible way. Dirty cheats are dirty.
Sucks for Ireland though, France can go die in a fire.
LOL Maya, such a perfect video considering the parties involved.
That Rivaldo thing made me sick to my stomach, no lie. I hate that type of attitude. I remember watching the game and shaking my head in disappointment while a bunch of friends cheered and screamed.
It's life. It's part of what makes soccer a really hard sport to play. It happens in every sport, and the fact of the matter is none review that kind of thing.
At some point you end up with a room full of people with monitors calling fouls every 10 seconds, and nobody wants that.
Just have a replay official like in college football who for controversial goals can review the goal while players are celebrating and the official is bringing the ball to the center of the pitch. Pretty simple and would not disrupt the flow of the game at all.
soccer yurk
Referee decisions have been so unfair in history, been a Spain fan and watching since i am kid all the times we have been stolen make me want to kill everyone at FIFA, i hope Ireland petition of a new match happens although i really doubt FIFA will do that.

^ I was 7 when this happened i remember my dad (he was spanish) went to pick me up from school after this game, i have never seen him so upset like that day because of this, the referee of that game was removed mid game if i remember correctly.

Fucking Korea i swear lol, they did same shit to Italy in previous game.

Italy i swear, i don't have anything against them outside a soccer field, but there i hate them with so much passion.
The Irish are pissed, they are officially requesting a rematch, France is having none of it though.
Also, Henry still rated best player in the world, according to Castrol.
Was watching Newsnight last night and they had an Irish comedian and a French footballer (David Ginola) on to discuss the match. According to Ginola (who just looked fucking embarassed by the entire thing), 80% of frenchmen who where polled about it said that they believe there should be a rematch and they where ashamed that it took such obvious cheating for them to win the match. You could say the french are surrendering about the matter.

YEEAAAAAAHHHH
I totally didn't see that coming.
henry is still the man, any other player would have played on and done the exact same thing =)
There's no doubt that other players probably would have done the same thing. The point is that a video review in the time it takes to get the ball out the net and back to the center spot wouldn't cause any type of hold up.
Im not disagreeing with that, just the lynching of henry everywhere is utterly retarded.
Not really, he's still a cheating fucker.
Replay the game. Suspend Henry from the rematch. This isn't just some weekend match. It's the fucking World Cup. The fact that there hasn't been some official stance made on this is ridiculous. Bullshit pure unadulterated bullshit. Ireland got fucked and has serious gripe that so far is falling on deaf ears.
The only way Ireland will be vindicated is for a rematch. Win or lose, at least it wouldn't be because of a blatant intentional violation of the rules.
