I did my RPAT a few months ago (RCMP Police Aptitude Test), and it was pretty easy. The math section was pretty basic like addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, plus some pretty simple word problems, and finding an X value like "2x + 13 = 19". I would imagine the Canadian Navy wouldn't be much different from the RCMP aptitude test in terms of math.

Here's a little prep test for the RPAT if you want to take a look.

Very true, although I did have a patient this year who was 18 and worked on a military base, when we asked what he did he said he was in engineering on the base, a desk job... K cool, know a lot of engineers... then he told us how much hes making, at 18, which floored us.

In the US, everyone in my high school was required to take the ASVAB (Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery). Granted, this was back in like 1998, but the math section had like 2 parts. One part had mostly "real life" problems, such as "Johnny bought a movie for $12.83 and gave the cashier $20. How much change does Johnny get back?" The other section was very basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) very similiar to what Effluo described. It was all multiple choice, but you were not allowed to use a calculator on any of it. You won't be required to do anything too difficult beyond basic algebra (2x + 3 = 4x -7, etc), most likely.

I wasn't that awful at math in high school, just the fact I've not done anything for nearly two decades worries me. But you guys seem to think it'll be okay so it'll probably not be that bad (of course you're all probably 20 years old and are still doing math in university whereas I've been dulling my brain in a real job for years now).

It is amusing to think that all those FFXI stats I worked at figuring out will come in handy. Who knew that figuring out a Stoneskin build would be beneficial a couple of years later. Perhaps I have done "serious" mathematics recently!

I'll get a high school math book from the library this weekend and scan through it.

The test is multiple choice and I will have scrap paper. If I do get stuck, at least I can try to eliminate 2 answers and have a 50% chance of getting it right.

You know what is on the test? Simple algebra? basic trigonometry? Fourrier transform?

If you have one bucket that holds 2 gallons, and another bucket that holds 7 gallons, how many buckets do you have?

Took mine back in 1996. Nice to see they didn't change it much lol. I'm curious as to what they look like now.

I took mine when I was 18, 13 years ago. Looking back, i still think it was a joke of a test. I was hungover and half stoned when I took mine and still got a 96. Granted, i was in HS and actually doing math. As long as you can remember basic Algebra, you'll do fine.

QFT. They also gave us some BS speech about how it was required and shit. That shit means nothing, it's just the government trying to recruit the next generation of mindless soldiers. I did go to HS with someone who got a 3... No, he couldn't spell his name right O.o
