In Canada, I'm expected to tip everywhere but I don't. If I go to Tim Horton's and the girl behind the counter turns around, pours a drink, grabs a muffin, and turns back around to face me, she does not deserve a tip. I got into an argument with my mother over this, who was horrified I refused to tip at Tim Horton's. She even gives big tips at the drive through windows!
If I'm sitting at a table and a waiter/waitress is coming to me for my order, bringing my food, and being a generally nice server (asking me if I want refills, etc) I'll give them a 15% tip.
But really, why are customers expected to make up the sucky wages of restaurant employees? I have my own sucky wages and I don't really want to suplement your sucky wages with mine.
