Emulator on PS3

Can you put an emualtor on a PS3 without having to put Linux on it? I want to play ffIII on it (DS version if possible). Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of having an OS on your PS3? Thanks.

As far as I know, you need to run linux to run anything else extra.. emulators or blu-ray rippers , etc

If you do install an OS then I would suggest getting a second ( bigger ) hard drive and then installing it. and then leave space for ps3 partition for games and downloads and stuff

As stated, need linux, and have fun getting the video/sound working flawlessly for something as simple as SNES games, as you won't be getting anything more modern than that running smoothly on it with the hardware restrictions put in place thanks to the PS3's hypervisor SPU.

Standard 2.5" SATA drive I believe. It's officially supported, instructions and the like are in the manual. Only one spot for a drive though.

You're probably better off going with a 5400 rpm drive too since the 7200s can run a bit hot in the PS3. I haven't had it freeze on me or anything but if I'm gaming for a few hours on it the system is VERY hot to the touch.

Fat PS3 versions can still install Linux but the new skinny ones won't be able to even if your PS3 up to date.
