Games/Programs losing focus intermittently

My Girlfriend and I have recently run into this issue where periodically the program/game that we're using will lose focus all of a sudden. I've seen it occur while playing Left 4 Dead 2, FFXI, various steam chat windows.

This has only started happening fairly recently, and the only thing I can think of is that AVG had an "upgrade to AVG 9.0" pop up that would appear quite frequently and grab focus over other programs. Has anyone else run into this issue and know of a fix? We both encountered the AVG upgrade window as an added note, since we're both using AVG.

AVG has kind of gone to shit, I'd try Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast, or Avira instead and see if you still have problems.

Figured out what the problem was. Seems it's a known issue with AVG 9

Temp fix is below, apparently a coming update should fix this problem.

I've been having this problem too, except I dont use AVG. It's pretty terrible when im in the middle of an arena and im randomly tabbed out for god knows what reason. I never really have many apps running in the background.. AIM, MSN, Skype and NOD32. So annoying Q.Q
