Speculation being that gaming will still remain a free part of online, and new content such as films, TV, comics, etc. will be part of a subscription based package.

Might have something to do with buying individual channels/movies being a waste of cash compared to the likes of NetFlix/Gamefly. A subscription-like service for that portion of the store would make sense.

It also has something to do with their upcoming SOS service I believe that works across multiple platforms, so it may be tied into that.

How can you be so sure about this? The 'current' content will remain free, everything else might end up on the "premium" network. I doubt they will charge you for gaming though, unless they want to come back on their word, but everything else might take a hit.

Because it plainly states that all of the features you receive now for free on PSN will remain free.

Demo, bonus, free downloadable content, ranking system etc....expect to see a certain amount of what used to be free content become premium. Most gamers will argue that free online gaming is all that matter, and I agree, but the addition of "premium" content is never a good thing.

Sony has been consistently removing features from the PS3 console since it was released.

It certainly wouldn't surprise me to see that extend to their software as well.

Still, my guess is more that they're going to do more with other content than with games. It'd probably make sense with respect to the PS3's popularity as a Blu-ray player - compared to the 360, it probably has a larger segment of non-gamer owners.
Something like an HD streaming service might be a value-add for those users.

Pretty sure you didn't read what was said by Sony, by there President not a PR rep, lol and get assraped by Sony really, because I didn't make any assumptions either way about what was plainly said? I don't really care either way tbh I almost always play any multi-player game on Xbox.
