From what RMT used to be in FFXI, I'd say SE did a pretty good job actually. Just compare 2009 RMT with 2005 RMT.

Yea but removing 50 billion gil from the economy and not putting anything back into it to stabilize it was a real kick to the nuts for a lot of people.

I figured you'd need to breed, or at least feed something to be able to ride it. Smacking it on the head and as someone already said 'making it your bitch'? I did not see that coming.

Honestly, those birds struck me as a direct rip-off of chocobos. It's like NC is trying to pander to both the WoW (OMG WE WANT MOUNTS!) and FFXI (YAY CHOCOBO!) demographics at once. Mounts aren't really something I give a crap about, really. I'm one of those people that wished flying was more integral to the game and a bit more than just WoW swimming with the breath meter replaced by flight time. System just needs to be faster, have some kind of maneuvers like barrel rolls or loops, and not be an utter bane for a melee class.

I guess I'd like them to have tactical benefits aside from graphical pretty, though. Like if a Sorc was hurling their fireball, you could roll at the right time and dodge it. I'm sure they'd cry foul as people would just spam them then, but NC could also just make them flight skills with short timers to promote intelligent use instead.

no, no it will not. it has FF in its name. and the hype over FF14 is out of hand. The only thing that will make hurt FF14 is a really bad start

its not defending anything, its stating the fact, SE has a big following that will give 14 a shot no matter what. It is up to them to answer their fans with a smoth 1st few weeks(well as good as a MMO can start out anyways)

If you read my post there is nothing that defends SE in any way. You know the very reason they are naming their MMO after FF is because people will buy it just because of its name. No where in that post does it say "SE rocks, SE does no wrong, SE is doing this right!!!"

Seriously though, he has a point. The final fantasy franchise name *will* sell a product regardless of it's content or merit; see Spirits Within, X-2, FF Adventure ect.

I never said you were defending SE as a company, but the game itself, just got the vibe that you were very excited about it.

Speaking of which, I'm as excited about FFXIV as anyone is. I definitely still plan to play it. I just thought it was a bit funny before this thread you have never really posted in the Aion section and come to find that post.

This is going to have to be the best update/expansion to any MMO. Have any high profile MMO's ever upgrade their engine completely like that?

In my brief experience with Ultima Online, I seem to recall them going from a 2d interface to a 3d interface (but able to pick what version you played depending on your system/preference).
