Alright this game sucks dick. No if's, and's or but's about it. It sucks dick, quite possible the worst first person shooter I've ever played.

Only thing I hate is how horrible Raven is and that you can't delete your character and start over on the other factions. I just had a fucking Sabotage match end in 4mins flat against SVER like it was nothing.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
You can delete you just start again from level 1.
It won't delete mine when I try it.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU
YLoD
Doubt it's MAG though, so don't worry. I just won't be able to play.
I quit playing the beta but this is nice for the others that are not sure about it.

Zipper Interactive has announced a massive multiplayer open beta for the PlayStation 3's massive multiplayer shooter MAG.
MAG has gone gold, and all is on course for its January 26th North American release. Now all Zipper Interactive and Sony have to do is make sure the game doesn't explode on launch day, so they're holding an open beta for the game between January 4th and January 10th. When they say open, they mean extremely open. If you are in a territory with the PlayStation Network, then you're in. Simply log into the PlayStation Network tomorrow, download the MAG open beta demo, start it up, and wait for it to download upwards of 2.3GB of data. You'll want to do this as early as possible, to make sure you aren't stuck waiting when the 4th rolls around.
Consider it Zipper Interactive's way of saying Happy Holidays, please buy our game next month.
Was in the closed beta, loved the game, can't wait for the official release.
is the closed beta over? I just redownload the product, it let me launch it, but kinda half froze at the character screen
I think it's been dead since like the 4th or something like that. You'll get to play it next month ;x
glad i spent 2 hours today downloading it XD
Did anyone here try the open beta last week?
I played it a bunch last night and didn't seem to have any problems with it. Except for one game where it was just glitching out in the most bizarre way, every game I played ran smoothly and worked well.
And I didn't have too many issues with sniping. Despite using the basic starter gun with no upgrades, headshots were one hit kills and body shots were 2-3 at most. Though it does seem the armor is more or less useless, I would die just as fast with the light stuff as I would with the heavy gear. That kinda sucks when you're making your load-outs because then there's no real reason to go heavy gear.
Also, this game should totally come packed with a mic. More then most console FPSs, this game needs teamwork and voice chat. Otherwise you're dead in seconds from that guy you never even seen coming.
Yeah, I tried the open beta. I was actually quite suprised there weren't many posts about MAG here.
In my opinion, the game won't be worth a purchase. The game itself isn't bad, but the price tag coupled with the release date will ensure that the game community will be terrible. What I mean by this, is that for example Warhawk, which was also online only, cost considerably less than "normal" PS3 games when it game out, and was available through PS Store. Not only that, but there are a number of AAA titles coming out near it's release date, the most prominent of these being Bioshock 2.
What follows is purely speculation on my part: So basically, the gaming community will most likely consist mostly of two types; young kids, who either purchase the game with their christmas money or have their parents buy the game for them, and the so called hardcore gamers who buy dozens of games every year. What this means for the community of the game, is that there will be a large amount of people who don't either know how to follow orders, or simply don't want to follow orders. And seeing as how in order to win it's essential to work as a team, the games will be just as big clusterfucks as they were during the beta.
I'd say the game will last few months before the playerbase starts dwindling, and the queues for 128vs128 games will start to take an hour.
I'll now share my experiences during the Open Beta:
I chose the Raven PMC as my army and Rapid Deployment as my speciality, and didn't respec during the beta as it fit my play style perfectly. The mobility and equal ranged and close quarters capabilities made it the perfect role for me. Unfortunately, I could see the problems with the community even in the Beta; there were teamkillers that ruined the whole game, people that just stayed in the spawn location and camped, people that stayed in one spot and sniped for the whole game and so on. Most of the time in Sabotage game mode, I was the only one in my squad actively trying to complete objectives, while the rest of the squad couldn't even decide which objective to go to.
It got even worse in Domination, where most people were clueless and either camped in one spot for the duration of the game, or simply just hunted for kills.
I know some of you believe that it's somehow magically going to get better in the final product, as people will have to actually buy the game to play, but I'm not as optimistic.
I did enjoy the beta, though. The game was very stable with minimal lag, even in Domination. Biggest problem (aside from the community) was the weapon balance. Raven assault rifles were incredibly weak, with the starter rifle taking as much as ten shots to kill anyone. I had a chance to try some of the S.V.E.R. rifles, and they were only marginally less acurate, but packed a lot more punch. I'm not gonna go in to detail about sniper rifles, but their damage probably should be toned down a bit in the finished product.
Sorry about that wall of text. TLDR: The game will fail because it's playerbase will have the attention span of a fly.
Eh, there are a lot of fans of Zipper that played the shit out of every SOCOM. And the hardcore SOCOMer's are pretty intense about strategy and tactics. Once whole SOCOM clans come into the game it will be fun for people that play with those guys, and the SOCOM community is pretty pumped about this game since Confrontation was so bad.
Ah, yeah, that is true. But still, unless you are in a serious clan (and I think it's safe to assume a good portion of playerbase will not be joining clans) you will have to queue up alone. And then it's all about luck; do you happen to get in to a game with squads that are in same clans, or with 127 solo players that just want to run around killing stuff?
The 128vs128 matches are the biggest selling point of this game, and I just think that the chances of getting 128 players in same game that are serious about winning the match is a statistically impossible. It only takes one crappy platoon to ruin the game for everyone... well, at least if you are attacking.
Edit: Well, probably even one crappy squad would do the trick.
I'm just hoping they end up being really strict about objectives and imposing actual XP penalties for people that don't follow orders instead of just just gimping XP gains.
I have a feeling once loads of people have the game they'll start making changes as a lot of the devs from Zipper were in SOCOM clans and did listen to the community.
Yeah, depending on what kind of community develops around this game I might still buy it. If players would consistently work together to achieve the objectives, this would be an awesome game. XP penalties would go a long way to motivate people to actually work together as a team.
So anyone going to buy at retail or is everybody going to be on Mass Effect 2? I'm going SVER at launch because the gamestop pre-order apparently gives you a character for sver.
I'm buying at retail, still not sure what I'm going to roll though. I guess if we get enough BG people to roll one faction I'll do that as well since I can know going in we'll play it proper
