    Honestly this is yet again, "wait and see" and if you can buy in-games with it..guess what? You have the choice to buy them or not.

    That is telling people that it's okay to buy items and that their view on how players experience their content comes at a price. Either play the way it was intended or dish out some cash to skip ahead which really is hypocritical and not exactly like the SE I know.

    I'm defending SE, too. Only... I am just defending what integrity they have rather than blindly following all of the korean grindfest MMOs that you feel the need to equate to a game that for years had a stern way on how their players experienced content. Don't bring that "Other MMOs in the world does it" bull shit in here. It should not be defended not because it's a waste of money, but because it makes a game into utter trailer park trash.

    The idea that this would be connected with FFXIV is pure speculation on the author's part, anyway. Given the same logic, "all services linked to your Square Enix account" applies to FFXI and TetraMaster as well. I doubt we'll be seeing anything new available for Crysta there, either.

    Granted, FFXIV is still in development so they *could* do it, but they do have other games that this sort of system is more targeted towards. Such as the aforementioned Fantasy Earth Zero.

    This is merely a (giant) leap from "SE is converting WebMoney (used by Fantasy Earth Zero) to Crysta, and centralizing their account system" to "FFXIV will be connected to your account, so this must mean you can buy in-game items with Crysta!"

    It could simply be that their JP-onry POL games will make use of Crysta, and won't really apply to the international games like FFXI and FFXIV.

    Honestly this is yet again, "wait and see" and if you can buy in-games with it..guess what? You have the choice to buy them or not. Just like you had the choice to buy the add-ons for FFXI or not if you seen it as them "selling armor" and the security token as an excuse to "buy" an in-game feature..honestly, microtransactions are part of MMO just as much as RMT is, it was amazing that FFXI was one of the only MMOs around that didn't have MTs for as long as it did.

    The best part about MT is? Even in the MMOs that utilized it, it was only items to try to get a leg up on people quicker a.k.a you didn't NEED them because you can always get something just as good if not better through game play, MTs usually targeted those who have money to piss away, you know, like those who buy millions upon millions of gil in FFXI to get the same items you can get yourself through farming/crafting/questing?

    @Blazed:

    It's already been determined FFXIV will have a monthly fee, they just never determined how much, it definitely won't be F2P, that's shooting yourself in the foot basically, hence why just about every F2P or 'private server' MMO tend to suck royally or you get bored after capping everything out in hours.
    again, no i don't have a "choice" to get it. This shit starts a dangerous precedent. if they start offering gear for real money, that means you have to pay to stay on top of your game, which is complete and utter bullshit. They want to sell vanity items that do nothing like a pirate hat? great, fine. but offering, as you say, items to help people get a leg up, is bull. I had to do the work, but some chump with mommy and daddy's credit card gets to skip the grind? yeah, no.

    and if they flat out sell currency, gil or whatever 14 has, the crafting system is already dead before we even play. currency will be completely worthless. There's too many fuckwits in 11 that rmt their way to the top, and offering a 'service' like this will just compound the problem. why buy your crack from the dealer when you can buy it from the producer? I want to like the game too, but all your posts make you seem like you have your head so far up Square-Enix's collective ass that you can't see daylight.

    Edit: Khamsin's post snuck in as i was writing this, and since he has a point, let me amend my rant with a big "IF" this even affects 14 in the first place.

    That's a little different thou, MS points go to a lot of shit vs the speculated in-game item.
    Like I use my MS points to rent movies and shit can SE points do that?

    Lets hope IF it does have some impact on FFXIV that it is for stuff like Sony use in EQ2 with StationCash i.e. fluff items.

    I find it funny how people are complaining about possibly paying for ingame items after they probably bought the last 3 mini expansions where they outright said they were buying the expansion for the items.

    the thing is.. you didnt "need" the shit they offered in the Mini Expansions... would you pay RL money for all your gear in XI/XIV?

    Think about all the RMT in this game and say that again with a straight face about the general populace.

    Well Blizzard is starting to sell fluff items on top of WoWs subscription. I'm sure almost every other game is going to start doing the same as well. Right now its limited to only two non combat pets but if they ever sell armor or things that directly effect the character I'm out. Same goes for XIV I won't be double dipped. F2p with cash shops or subscription, I won't deal with both.

However, it's a tricky issue, since while some will surely welcome the elimination of RMT players, others will oppose the idea of paying real money for in-game currency or items."

    Eliminating items from game and put up for sale for game currency bought with real money..
    so its ok to RMT only if its not sold by China
    lol
    that seems to be how it works mostly in my mind. Whenever you think of *bad* rmt it is china gil farmers sitting in a room with 50 other people playing the game on a .05/hr wage.

    People in FFXI overlooked the US/EN and many JP RMT for a long time. This is what I think the main mindset is.

    I hate the idea of buying in game items. I will end up buying some that are not ro much, mostly DLC.

    As for paying for my fee off this I would. I had to call SE and till the dude saw I was a member for nearly 7 years he gave me flack about using a my citibank card because it was not 3C crap or whatever.

    That statement has the the most retarded one in this whole thread. In most MMOs, when there's a cash shop, it gives items that are either a) a replacement for endgame gear accessible by other means without paying or b) items to go faster with other stuff in game like leveling. Either way, as you've seen it in ffxi, whoever pays the most will get on top, be it legal or illegal. While I am not for a cash shop, it certainly wouldn't break the game balance and heck, if I'm gonna farm 20 hours for an item, I might as well pay what I earn in 1 or 2 to have it instead and do more enjoyable stuff in the game. Whoever isn't happy with paying for stuff can work for it on his own if that's his powertrip, but farming dozens of hours for a piece of virtual shit sure as hell isn't my idea of having fun.

    ITT: Destinye is a retard as usual and everyone wonders how he's not banned for sheer annoyance factor yet;
    Cash Mall in FFXIV? = everyone is not fucking playing that game;
    there will be no one for RMT to sell currency to if no one plays FFXIV because of SE's own RMTing.

    I really, really hate the idea that SE might start selling ingame items for RL money. Even if it's just vanity items, I don't want to play ANY of those MMOs that make you pay for items, and certainly not an FF MMO. It's fine if they just use Crysta for paying monthly fees and buying downloadable expansions, but it's really going to be NOT fine with me (and most others apparently) if Crysta can buy you gear or items. To me, it's disappointing to see a cool piece of gear, wonder how to get it, and find that I have to pay RL money for it. I don't have the kind of disposable income to be spending on virtual items.

    Sure, it may not be SE's intention from the outset to use Crysta for RMT, but the thought is most likely floating around and will eventually come to fruition unless there is a big enough public outcry. We've already seen that the asian communities seem to have little problem with cash malls, as they infest basically every asian-based MMO, so we might be stuck with it if SE does want it to happen. =(

    Personally, the big thing for me is, with SE's terrible customer service track record, and the way they just don't give a fuck about making sure shit works in their games (hello Gyromancer crashing every 30 mins, not to mention all the broken shit in FFXI), I'd rather play Aion or something if there's going to be a cash mall involved; that's one of the main issues keeping me away from other MMOs lately.

    If it's RMTing only for "fluff" like currently in WoW for non-combat pets and such, I won't mind. If it's expanded to alter appearances and such too, I won't mind. If it gives ANY advantage when it comes to progressing in the game, I want nothing to do with it.

    This is the general mindset for everyone, but as I said earlier, what if SE starts releasing that kind of items only after the end-game veteran playerbase has stabilized?

    It would be foolish announcing that they're selling stuff before the game is even released and let's be honest: people on FFXI are made fun of for not owning Byakko's Haidate or PCC all the time and they just choose to RMT/pay some LS only because they're under psychological pressure more than really desiring them.

    If an equivalent item is sold by SE a lot of players will just buy it for similar reasons, that's what SE would be playing on. Not on the value of the item but on the pressure the whole playerbase who has already bought it can make.

    I'd rather they create a system where RMTing would have no advantage.

    And if there's an issue with a system they released, fucking change it for fucks sake. If they were swift with changes to 'abuseable system by RMT', there would be no need for RMT.

    I hate to use WoW as an example.. but you don't need to RMT in that game. If you need gold, you can earn it quickly with a little effort. I hope 14 will actually have a decent time to reward ratio in terms of gil, however they do it. Because that is what will make RMT obsolete.

    You don't have to RMT in FFXI by any means unless you're retarded and incompetent (see: 99% of gilbuyers). Some people will always be lazy and want to get ahead by spending real money, hence there's no way you can make a game "RMT-proof" by design. I very much doubt SE would do something as idiotic as the OP is describing, unless they feel like changing the game's default language to Arabic. What's funny is that even if they did implement purchasable in-game currency, there's nothing to stop CGF from simply undercutting their prices and continuing to function as normal.

    I agree this is a case of selective reading and massive speculation. This seems just SE combining all their services, and renaming something as lame as "e-coin" to "crysta" a word that is much more SE. Speculating that "OMG they have currency!" (oh wait they have had it for awhile for JPs, and this is a JP only announcement) means that FFXIV will have buyable items with Crysta is a large fucking leap people.
