    Nintendo DS, and flashcarts

I picked up a used nintendo DS lite, and was trying to look into flashcarts.

Doing google searches on the subject, haven't really gotten my anywhere.

    I'm wondering

    1) Which flashcart to buy?

    2) Can said flashcart play any older GBA/GB games on it too, or DS only games?

    3) Where the hell to buy one? Most stores i've looked at online, are pretty shady.

    1) Acekard 2 or the CycloDS I think are the best ones at the moment

    2) DS only, you need a seperate adapter to play GBA games.

    3) I bought a R4, which kinda sucks now, but I think you can use overseas sites like Playasia.com to get the other cards.

Here's a helpful site that can explain why the two Cephius mentioned are recommended and what you get for the money: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?act=home - Very handy site in general!

Looking to get a cart now, too. Worried about getting a fake, and I'm kinda looking at the Acekard 2 since CycloDS is like 2-3x more expensive than even the Aces I've seen.

CycloDS is the best one imho but it costs more than other ones such as R4 (but R4 has its own issues here and there). Have yet to have an issue with CycloDS as of yet.

I have a supercard lite (gba slot) with a DS slot pass key. I think i paid about $45 for it and it came with a 2gig mini(micro?) sd card. Runs DS games / gba / gba / gb games. Only problem is it hasn't been able to play bowser's inside story which is sort of a premonition of things to come with the new encryption nintendo now has access too, although thats the ONLY game i've ever tried to play that I couldn't

you definitely get what you pay for with cycloDS. Loads of features, reliable, and compatible with virtually everything, as well as nearly idiot-proof.

Why worry about how much you'll pay for it, when it means you'll never have to spend $30-35 on another game ever again?

spending a little more to ensure you're getting a top quality card that isn't a fake is well worth it, in my book.

In retrospect I would've liked to get a cycloDS when I originally bought my Acekard 2. Nothing against the Acekard, and it's actually quite nice with the custom AKAIO firmware, but still doesn't have all the features of cyclo.

Only real reason I haven't jumped on the Cyclo yet is in the off chance I happen upon a DSi in the future, I'm not sure if it'll work for it. Some of the others have firmware that'll work regardless of DS unit, and the gbatemp site seems to be suggesting another new, quality card is on the horizon. Just no ETA on sooner rather than later.

I'm completly new to this flashcart thing for the Dsi. Sorry for the nub questions. Lol. How does this work? Just put the flashcart into the DSI and run .roms from the cart? The cart is pretty much a SD memory card with software that allows DSI and GBA games?

Pretty much, yep. Except its only DS games, not GBA. The card contains a microSD card that you insert into it with the firmware and .nds files onto it. Boot up the card, pick your game and off you go. Very simple and newb-proof.

You need something that plugs into the GBA slot. I have an old EZ Flash Advance III that still works fine for me, but I use an original DS, not a Lite.

I use EZ 3 in 1 plus but I haven't used it much so I can't give a full opinion on it yet. Works fine thus far though.

Difference is you can get the AceKard2i for $10 and it's hard to find the cyclo under $40.

The cost difference is significant and the Cyclo's features, to me, don't justify it.

Anyone who's bought an Acekard2 have the link to the site they got it from? I'm just paranoid about buying a faked version while also getting it as cheaply as possible.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the G6, too. Haha at some site wanting $125 for it.

Bought mine from consolesource(.com). Can't say for the speed/quality of the store, but they are listed as a legit supplier on acekards site, and they have a website that at least looks like they tried lol. I probably could have found it cheaper but the cheaper sites looked like a little kid built them, and the items were shipping from Hong Kong (at some of the stores at least). That doesn't necessarily mean its a fake or of bad quality, but I'd rather spend $5 more at what seems to be a more reputable retailer. Besides, the cheaper places tended to charge more in shipping so the price difference was meh. Here's hoping i don't get burned! Mine was $30 shipped for a Acekard 2i. I'll let you know how the store did when I receive mine. ^^

Edit: Here is the official Acekard resellers list: acekard.(com)/distributors.php
Can't post links so just remove the parentheses from the com. >_<
