New Seagull/Heron Rings

I've still never seen a Heron Ring (or any other drop other than runes and my Seagull Ring) from the 50+ runs I've done of this.

Is there any secret to getting the non-Rune drops? Certain runes you need to use to make them drop? Are they specific to which NPC you choose? Or can you get any of the drops from any of the NPCs? I choose Clairasse every time so i can get a few more Moat Carp since I'm going back and doing Lu Shang Quest to get a rod to sell.

Has anyone got a Heron Ring from Clairasse (the Elven on the right)?

I always picked the mithra, but don't get me wrong I'm not insisting mithra has a higher ring droprate.

We have gotten two Heron Rings from the tarutaru. /shrug

If you won't, I will! Elf is piss poor for drops. In my 150+ runs Elf only ever dropped a single rune. We tried Elf for a full week, so ya it wasn't alot of runs, but in a week of 4+ runs a day and only 1 rune to show for it? Hard to imagine that was coincidence.

Otherwise rune placement shouldn't matter at all for drops (aside L&F and Conditioning Contract, L&F we know, CC is still unknown how it affects the chests). Pick any maze, pick Mithra or Taru, you'll see rings/runes/charts after awhile. (Note: Pirates chart/Brig seem to be affected by Saltwater/Freshwater mazes)

Just got a Seagull Ring (and a Rune too) from the Elvaan on a freshwater run. Sorry, but I think random shit is just random.

whats best baits to use for saltwater mazes? i tried minnow and sinking minnow in the fresh water maze,, had about 25 no bites, only mobs,, finally had to change to fly lure and go for crappy frogs..

I dunno about saltwater, but as far as freshwater goes:
Use worm lure in 2nd pond for Eels (200pt ea.) and Monke-onke (~550 pt). Eels stack to 3 and Monke stack to 1.
Use frog lure in 1st pond for Giant Catfish.
Or use the big maze bait and rod if you dont have lushangs/ebisu to reel in the big fish. I imagine the maze baits would work in saltwater too, but I'm sure someone out there has a better idea....

Just to dispel any myths, my group received a Heron Ring tonight from the Elvaan, so that means I have seen both rings from the Elvaan with a freshwater setup. (I have also seen both rings drop from the Taru as well, and i've seen 1/2 from the Mithra.)

At this point, my suspission is that the race you choose only affects the trash fish you recieve in the chest.
