Need help building new PC~

Okay, I'll be honest and say I know next to nothing about building a PC, but mine is getting old and since Christmas is coming around I thought I'd build a new one. I've got a $1200 budget, including a monitor. PC would be used mostly for gaming~ hopefully able to handle ffxiv when it comes out.

Do you need the OS as part of the budget, LCD and accessories too? $1200 is going to get you something pretty highend and nice, an i7 cpu or i5 if you want something with a little more breathing room

Just need LCD and the PC, $1200~1400 range is fine, can get Windows 7 for $30.

Here's what I came up with http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...Number=9991294 $1264, and then $70 in rebates. I squeezed in a few places to get the build to the lower end of the budget. I kept the 2nd harddrive to use in Raid 0, but my original picks was an evga mobo, and the Antec 900 case instead. You can skip those upgrades and throw in the $100 for the higher ATI 5870.

Yeah but at the same time, these threads can easily go 10+ posts or multiple pages. What if 3-4 different people are posting builds and getting them commented on in the same thread, then need to sort through everything... Plus all the "was that directed at me?" "You want me to put that ram with that mobo?" and it could get messy.

These at least drop off the first page kinda quickly.

Yeah, I thought of making one thread for it, but it's pointless. Stuff changes too fast to make a definitive list without updating it every week, and people's requirements are different based on budget or what they intend to use the computer for. So we just have to live with a bunch of threads

If you have patients and look for good deals you could probably build an i7 computer. Maybe i7 920, asus p6t, radeon HD5770, antec 1200, etc.

It would basically be what we already have, a "how to build a computer thread", going farther than that would be difficult. Because of how new shit comes out every 3-6months and drops in price at the same rate, new threads will pretty much be a necessity.

Like everyone has mentioned, knowing how to do it can be dedicated to a thread, but knowing what to put in it is all user based.
