Questions for players who play / played WoW

    Hey Everyone,

A friend of mine asked me to join him in WoW and I would get a account for a month or two just to help him get started. I played FFXI end game so it wouldnt be full out play time, but more just to help my friend get started in WoW and help him out. I have played WoW in the past, but didnt get past level 30 or so.

I remember when i played for a little bit there were sort of... Add ons you could put in your game to help out with things. Some times that come to mind were something that would help you pick quests and show you were to go, and also something that would show you what status ailments your party members had. Are these still around?

Also, what is the best place to look for WoW information and or skill builds? I personally plan on playing a Warrior but my friend has no idea what he wants and the warcraft.com information is rather vague.

wowwiki is outdated in pretty much every area. but for leveling, just pick w/e skills help you the most. looking at some stuff at EJ's will help you determine what does so however.

Are you planning to stick around longer than level 30 this time? Or just help him get started and level quickly and easily?

Start out with which type of roll you'd want to play either at the end and while leveling.

    DPS? Tank? Healer?

Break it down into how you'd like to do above roll.

Caster? Ranged? Melee? Plate? Cloth? Two hander? Dual Weild? Pet Class?

And look at how long you want to play. If you are just going to level with him and help him out, pick a class that is easy to play and level. (Rogue Hunter Druid etc).

After that is out of the way, start looking at the builds posted above, addons, etc. There is no reason for you to go to Elitist Jerks, it'll be a waste of time. There is too much information there about endgame and it's not sorted out well, lots of 100-300 page threads. Wowwiki is absolutely fine for starting out, as well as the Zam forums. Don't be afraid to peak in the wow forums as well.

    TomTom + TourGuide

    or

    Questhelper/Carbonite + TourGuide.

I personally prefer option 1 as it's a bit more lightweight. Leveling is cake with either one of those combos though.

e-j is terrible for players new to the game, because they frankly don't give a shit until you're level 80 clearing ToGC25 hardmodes. Stick to other sites, go to E-J when you hit 80 and need good info on how to play your class then.

Start with QuestHelper, because it's so damn useful.

For the rest, I wouldn't bother until it cause you issue in game. It's easier to deal with the "core", and build on this rather than start with every plugins at once. Same goes on for guide and strategy. Read the ingame description, and try to figure out what's the best on your own, it doesn't really matter until 80. After that, go read forum and optimize your stuff.

Personally, the plugin I'm using are
onebag3: one big bag instead of 5 small one
xperl: ugly interface, but easy to customize
CT mod: control on bar and size. I use this to make 5 tiny bar at the bottom of my screen and removed some undeeded stuff (that I open with keyboard shortcut)
Grid: UI to target/heal party member and alliance member

I used the Jame's Levelling guide addon and found it worked quite well. It's set up so you do as many quests as possible in the same area with minimal back and forth.
