I thought anyone can get Gardasil, not just females between 12-26. Insurance just doesn't cover the immunization for men or older women. (Which is of course bullshit, but it's not completely out of reach if you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars.)

I don't know about the age restriction for sure, but it is definitely not FDA-approved for men. They didn't do any clinical trials on it for men, since their focus was cervical cancer. Obviously it would work just fine to stop those 4 strains of HPV, but they would still have to do clinical trials, and beyond that they'd have to prove that it would be a significant health improvement for men (compared to the extremely minor side effects) for it to be approved.

"Making sure I don't give my wife a virus that can cause cancer" isn't a good enough health improvement apparently.

Vaccines can be a great thing, and they have throughout the last century and will continue to. But I think a lot of the problems caused by these vaccines, could be easily controlled if they changed the current common procedures for the manufacturing and production of these vaccines.

Also on a side note the shot doesn't protect you from HPV, as if it's just a single virus. It protects you from the more cancer causing, and wart cauing (the real HPV,lawl) strains. So that is it's plus side.

A friend of mine who is the youngest person in the country to have been diagnosed with esophogeal cancer just died after a 13 month long battle. She never smoked or did chew in her life. The doctors thought that it may have been caused by transmission of HPV via oral sex. So if you know anyone who hasn't been vaccinated yet that does oral please tell them to get it.
