I thought anyone can get Gardasil, not just females between 12-26. Insurance just doesn't cover the immunization for men or older women. (Which is of course bullshit, but it's not completely out of reach if you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars.)

I think the point of it being for younger women is that it is given BEFORE they become sexually active. Once you've had sex, you've likely been exposed to HPV and the vaccine won't do you as much (if any) good.

Gardasil was just very recently approved by the FDA for men, in October. Current indication is just for prevention of genital warts, as the the clinical trials for cancer prevention are probably still ongoing.

In any case, even if it was not approved for men, your doctor could have still prescribed it for off-label use, although insurance plans often don't cover such situations.

IIRC, the injections are ~$250 a piece, and you're required to get three of them. Just thought I'd throw that out there for any of you considering that option.

Vaccines can be a great thing, and they have throughout the last century and will continue to. But I think a lot of the problems caused by these vaccines, could be easily controlled if they changed the current common procedures for the manufacturing and production of these vaccines.

Also on a side note the shot doesn't protect you from HPV, as if it's just a single virus. It protects you from the more cancer causing, and wart cauing (the real HPV,lawl) strains. So that is it's plus side.
