Right now I'm only in my first year of undergrad, but I plan on pursuing a doctorate in Sociology and work as a professor.

Hmm...
I may eventually need your help with my research. Do you happen to do any mathematical modeling in your research on proteins? My professor took me off the carbon nanotube project and has me modeling protein and polymer structures. Right now I'm sticking to the Lennard-Jones interaction between two seperate structures, but I eventually need to expand it well beyond that if I want my research to be realistic. The problem is that I have only a very basic knowledge of chemistry (not nearly enough for the project I'm on). Do you happen to have any experience with mathematical models or simulations of protein interactions? Or do you know of any good books/journal articles that could help?
Edit: On a somewhat related note, I won a 200 dollar prize today for my research on heat conduction across thermal contact junctions in carbon nanotubes and carbon nanomaterials. I didn't even realize I could win money just for doing research.
I want in.
I must confess, I don't know much about mathematical models for predicting protein-protein interactions. It's more of a bioinformatics/biophysics topic, and although I am essentially in a biophysics lab, we don't generally look at protein-protein interaction or use mathematical models. It's well outside the scope of my current research, although it might not be a year from now but I think that's a bit late to help you.
I could poke around because I seem to remember some papers about in silico experiments for protein-protein interactions which seems to be along the lines of what you are looking for. If you want, we can take this to PMs or something where I can be more specific.
Your post helps. I don't even know what bioinformatics is, but I was in my computer science teacher's office today and saw a bunch of books on it. So know I know who to ask about this. Thanks.
I don't know what silico experiments are. As you know, I'm a physics major, not a biologist (I don't know why my professor even put me on this project). Is it something that I will need to know?
Probably not.
I went through my old systems biology notes. Check out protein-protein docking.
People who have masters or PhD's scare me
omfg lol
U C F KNIGHTS, GOOOOO KNIGHTS!
English major.
An English major is major foolishness.
MM there is very strong possibility we live within 10 minutes of eachother.
Let us hook up.
Silverbreeze, I want you to bite. Very hard.
