    Wireless N USB card

I'm looking for a Wireless N USB card, but I don't want the antennae built inside, I want something with an external antennae so I can unscrew it and attach my cantenna to it. Would anyone know where I could find such a product? All the ones I see online have their antennae built in.

Seems about right. You know if the N one you listed also works for the other formats? (a/b/g/). One I was looking at earlier did (but didn't have external antennae) and it specifically listed so, so just wanted to make sure since this one doesn't.

Long story short, bought one of these a while ago
http://www.wirelessgardenstore.com/v...s/SCB10X-2.jpg and am using it w/ my current usb wireless card to get free interwebs (lol). My neighbor, who provided a really reliable connection for the past 4 years, moved out recently and I've been having trouble keeping connected to the new neighbors. My card is a pretty cheap brand and pretty old as well, so I figured I'd replace it with something more up to date and see if that'd help at all.

Yeah, N will work with all of the other formats so nothing to worry about there.

I remember the last time that I found an unprotected wireless network in my local area, I left a link to a guide on how to set up a password for the router in their documents folder named 'YOUR COMPUTER IS UNPROTECTED'. It took about a week for them to find it, and I don't talk much to any of my neighbours so they never knew to ask me about it >.>

Sorry to ask, but you seem to be good with this stuff. Is that particular N model the best bang for the buck or would you have any other recommendations?

Don't be sorry to ask, I don't mind at all.

$43 is about £25, which is middle of the range over here in the UK. Wireless N use adapters range from £15 for a bleh make, to £30 for a far better one so that's a reasonable price I'd say. I can't imagine prices being much different in the US.

While there are some others around if I search for 'Wireless-N Adapter with Antenna' which are much cheaper, I'd say you don't really want to go below $35 if you want something that's not going to drop connection every 20 minutes.

Yea, figured as much. More or less meant quality at a decent price rather than going for the lowest price.

It's a shame that there don't seem to be any with an antenna made by better known brands.

That Wizard one that's first linked should be good if you're willing to spend that sort of price. Can always return it if it's not preforming.

hmm , how about durability? want something plastic or ect except the actual part that plugs in my usb port because I use a usb extender wire, and let it sit on the window (with the window open)

I don't think durability is going to be a problem. They're all made by the same plastic more or less and it's pretty resilient (my sister has one sticking out of her laptop which often gets knocked and it's still fine after over a year).

Linksys are a good make which you can feel a bit more comfortable with.
If the extra price and larger size aren't a problem then yeah, shoot for the Linksys.

I was thinking the same, 5 bucks isn't rly much, but how would it work w/ the dual antennae? Would i still be good to hook up the cantenna as one, and just leaving the other as is?

I've never done such a thing myself so I can't be sure, but I assume the two antenna just helps to keep a more stable connection (if one has a problem and misses a bunch of packets, the other is still receiving) and so adding the cantenna wouldn't knock anything out.

bleh just read the newegg reviews of each. The linksys is supposedly easily breakable and the other is sensitive to touch? >.> Guy said he'd lose connection by touching it.

Are all reviews saying that or is it the only one posted? I know that someone would bitch about the elixer of life if it were ever created, so you'll just have to take some peoples comments with a grain of salt.

Linksys are a decent enough brand and they shouldn't really be delicate or whatever the guy's saying. Unless there's a few reviews saying the same thing, it's probably just some guy who got a dud item and is voicing his annoyance.

hmm on the lynksis review, I see at least 3-4 "drops connections when uploading a large ammount of data" 1-2 "randomly drops connections" and 4+ "flimsies". The one from the OP (well its version on new egg) only has 5 reviews period, so that's not much to go off of.
