Doesn't it sound exactly like their older albums?
How would that be a bad thing?
Show me where I said it was a bad thing. I had no opinion on the matter thank you very much.
they are also awesome in concert
it doesn't sound like their older albums at all. i think it's very different. not in a bad way.
it still sounds like the flaming lips but I wouldn't say it's the same, it's hard to explain
there's something signature about it in the style of distortion and sounds they use but this almost has a classic rock feel to it underneath the psychedelic
I can tell this album is going to get a lot of play for me
stuff I've played the shit out of this year:
the fountain soundtrack
hot chip
girl talk - feed the animals web album
mogwai - the hawk is howling, travel is dangerous ep and subsequently the rest of their catalogue all over again
Try some lil wayne on the track
I don't always know how to describe music properly but this album seems a bit more organic[?] than say the soft bulletin and not so squealy as yoshimi..
I'm admittedly less familiar with their 2006 release, the last few years have been a lot of me not using my CD's so much
case in point: I took a mogwai ep out of the plastic last weekend while studying, I bought it.. a year ago?
I have about 10 bands that I collect anything and everything album, ep, soundtrack, boxset, side project, remixes etc (bjork and radiohead are on these lists but both have an inordinant amount of singles and remixes, so I limit it to albums, soundtracks and boxsets for them)
It's not really a band I ever went out of my way to find or listen too. My only experience with them is the radio, and I'm assuming they are playing the new stuff since the album came out.
download the Soft Bulletin
that is all, change your mind after that if ever

13 and 14 are reprises that sound slightly different, the bolded tracks are desert island songs (if you could only take x number of CD's etc)
I also require flaming lips' best songs to see if I will like them.
