tbh I've never uploaded a thing in my life, I'm picking up extra hours atm but I'll try to remember when I get home, I'm sure I'll figure it out

hmm what's the title of the album? I guess I can be unlazy
Embryonic
in all honesty though if it's your first exposure to the band (I doubt this is case with you Beckwin, iirc you have pretty cool taste in music) check out the Soft Bulletin first
this latest album is a beautiful play-straight-through CD, a real throwback to when you could actually put on an album and leave it on
I stopped listening to my CD's when I got lazy and started watching videos on youtube, but then I'd forget about things and then not bother with music all for the most part. I finally sorted some things out on my new computer and have started the huge task of burning all my CD's on to it (zune software, non legit windows were holding me back, all stemming from my hate of iTunes etc, what a mess)
soft bulletin is amazing, I remember hearing the jelly song ("she uses vaaaaaaseline") years and years ago when I was like... 12? idk
and yoshimi is really solid too, but more quirky/campy in some ways.
found some links, will post if they work and quality is good.
I'm about to listen to it for the 4th time this shift, I'm still in that can't-quite-catch-all-the-words listening phase
Karen O is on here a couple times although it's not immediately clear when, a funny touch considering The Yeah Yeah Yeah song on the previous album
random fact: my gf got me a fiber optic christmas tree and I immediately started half-singing "Thank you Jack White, for the Fiber Optic Jesus that you Gave me" (a song off a 6 or 7 track e.p. also very very good, including a Knives Out cover
honestly everything Soft Bulletin and onward is super accessible, the album with She Don't Use Jelly being about as accessible as it gets when you go back 2-3 albums from TSB
oh and if anyone cares pitchfork gave Embryonic a 9![]()

that should do it for the new flaming lips. listening now; it's good
Pitchfork is TERRIBLE
Going to sleep for real now.
pfork 10s are like 40s from that slant gaming mag
generally indicates quality, but not so appropriate comparative to all other high quality records
plus pfork tends to have a problem with wordsturbation and dropping too many references in reviews
but it's interesting nonetheless
I also like how they re-review reissues to cover their asses when something has obviously become an undisputed classic, haha. but better than stubbornly sticking to a bad review/score, I guess
for example I don't even think YHF is wilco's best, not to mention I can think of many albums by other bands that are better. yhf seems more significant just because of the diy publishing and subsequent success rather than the music (which isn't bad; I find it a little bland but it's still good stuff).
the radiohead, and you will know us by the trail of dead, and flaming lips scores are pretty spot on though, well-deserved.
pink floyd animals made the entire list suspect to me lol, except the ones I'm familiar with
The Soft Bulletin is by far the Flaming Lips' best work, the added production of whatsisface from Super Furry Animals (I want to say Gruff Rhys but I think I'm wrong -- nvm it's Dave Fridmann) really gave new dimensions to the music played
such a simple thing as putting double the amount of microphones near the drums than what is normally used gives the drums such a prominent feeling in many of the songs
also lyrically, Wayne Coyne really hit on some amazing imagery and lyrics, I can't say enough good things about that album
