Been buying bits since about August (yes I'm female and organized like that) and my Christmas at MY family has already been and gone (we did a mini- pre-Christmas thing), his folks are off on his dad's oil tanker, so just me, him and the mental cat for Xmas day itself. He's lucky - one Xmas in two he only has two people to buy for cos his folks are away from his dad's work.

Bought lots of little bits - cos that's the way my family do things.

Mum - silver necklace, Lush bath stuff (the shop Lush - dunno how well known it is in the States - that one guys whine about the smell of) and some other little bits like books and stuff
Step dad - chocolates and some board/family games thing (he's a fucking nightmare to buy for)
Lil bro - Jack Daniels hip flask and alchymahol to put in it
Family friend who's been like a dad to me growing up - he's very politically minded and loves biographies and shit like that so got him a book of Speeches That Changed the World - which he proceeded to sit and read out at the dinner table.
Blokey - gave him the choice of Dragon Age or the new Zelda - he got the new Zelda and I'm gonna have my DS nicked until he finishes it again.

Lots of other little bits and bobs for people as well - plus I made 'em all different sock monkeys as an extra gift which went down better than the bought stuff to be honest.

I spend a LOT on Xmas - but I do it over a good few months so it's like £20 here and there and I don't notice it that much (this year I was earning cash from my tutoring work and chucking it straight into the Christmas fund so I never noticed it going missing) - I will NOT get myself into debt or spend money for essentials on Christmas gifts, but I'm the kind of person who can make pretty nice gifts if the money gets really tight (I've made lots of really cheap little things up into really posh looking hampers before when well-skint... my mum did similar for me this year with lots of nice cooking ingredients and fancy flavoured oil and stuff wrapped up into a nice hamper for me - which was cheap as chips really but a dead nice gift when I'm trying to build up my cooking stuff).

Damn, i couldn't imagine having to buy gifts for that many people. Glad my Christmas's are really nice and cheap....Minus the fact i have to spend 500+ dollars on a plane ticket to fly back to Ohio for leave but meh.

Dutchy here, giving presents for christmas here is optional! Got my girlfriend earrings and her parents a good bottle of wine because she and her family are traditional with christmas presents. Not giving my parents and sister anything, did present-giving at the start of this month during some Dutch holiday (hence x-mas presents being optional, most give presents at only one of the two holidays).

Had some great dinner tonight though. More tomorrow. Om nom.

So my mom has had this huge secret project for my daughter that we've been waiting to see. We finally got to see it today:

Some cool things about it, handmade, some rooms wallpapered, some painted. The purple room is done in the exact paint scheme as her bedroom in our house (purple stripes). Even the curtains were sewn by hand. Oh, and yes it has shutters and individual wooden shingles. Absolutely ridiculous.
