So...now that the season is over...who do you guys expect to win next year? I think 'Bama is going to lose at least one maybe two...win the SEC and miss out on the National Championship. I think Ohio State will have a good year and make it to the game...the winner of Va Tech and Boise St has a good chance to go all the way also, though it will be harder for Va Tech to stay undefeated. Nebraska should win the Big 12 next year...picking Oregon in the PAC 10, Pitt in the Big East, Va Tech in the ACC, Bama in the SEC, Ohio State in the Big 10.
I dunno. The SEC will be tough. Tennessee should be a lot better, Auburn could be better, Alabama may even be better. Then you've got LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and even Mississippi State. Georgia maybe, but I don't see them competing next year. So Alabama would be the 'default' winner, sort of like Florida was this year, and that's not safe.

I like the idea of Va Tech/Boise State having the inside track for the National Championship game next year with whoever wins. Ohio State could be really good, Nebraska should win the Big 12 if they can perform a little better on offense, and I dunno about Oregon. The Pac 10 is confusing right now. As far as the Big East, I'd go with Pitt for sure. Their RB is a beast. Va Tech usually wins the ACC or finds a way to the Championship game, and depending on the Boise game, I like them again.

You guys have it wrong. If McCoy stayed in the game the Colt intimidation factor would be in play and Alabama would have had much worse play out of their offense, defense, special teams, coaches, and cheer leaders.

Those crying Texas cheer leaders at the end weren't sad about the score. They lost the Colt factor.

    Incoming shot at Big XII.

What we can learn from this is the Big XII QBs are pussies. First Bradford to a shoulder, then Colt in the championship? Psh. Maybe if they played teams with defenses, they'd be built up better!!1one

Nah, I'm not serious. That and Nebraska actually has a really good defense. Still... the QQing over Colt being out is so fun.

Someone actually made that comparison. They said "It'd be like the Colts missing Peyton Manning, or the Patriots missing Tom Brady!"

I mean really? Colt McCoy ='s a hall of famer? Didn't someone earlier this year, in this thread, mention that if you can't win while missing one 'star player', then you weren't a good team anyway?

It's pretty silly overall, I knew Texas fans and Big12 fans would use that injury as a crutch.

Vandy is taking it all the way! XD I'm kinda interested in what Arkansas can do if Mallet gains some control on that arm of his. Of course as a Bama Faithful I have to say Bama all the way again. But losing a lot of the main players on defense has me sad

And comparing Colt to Peyton "Jesus" Manning is pretty insane right now. Colt is surely one of the best QBs to play the college game, now if he can do the same in the NFL for 10 years you might have a case. But you wouldn't have got Peyton out of that game unless his arm was ripped off. No quit in the SEC Bay-bee.

No guys, Colt is not a pussy, he is an amazing beast that strikes fear in the hearts of all. Until he was slain by St. Marcell Dareus with a mighty blow to the side that spun McCry around until he sat down on an offensive lineman.

first off, I just have to take this opportunity to lol @ the bama cheerleaders, I didn't see a single one that could fill out an A cup

secondly, if bama had played any worse whatsoever they would have lost without mccoy being in

they had one decent quarter, 1 quarter where everyone was in shock, and got dominated for 28 minutes of the second half

herp derp they didn't need to try, that's why they were nursing a 3 point lead with Texas having the ball with 3 minutes left

herpderpherpderpherpderp. Lookit me. I say herpderp like I'm smart for figuring something out or something.

Alabama got sacked what.. 5-6 times? Had a shitty game all together? Still ran all over that vaunted Texas defense? Like people have said, Colt doesn't play D. The freshman QB didn't exactly throw them into a terrible place all the time. Mack Brown and the O-Coordinator helped with that at the end of the first half.

Herp derp, we lost our star player so Owait. Oklahoma lost Sam Bradford, along with their top WR/TE, but when I defended that whole star quality missing from a game, people jumped on me. =[

Also, the 'idiotic fumble from inside the 5"? You think Colt would have seen the BLINDSIDE HIT? Colt's good, but he still would've gotten hit/fumbled in that situation.

Just shut the fuck up though. Last I checked in the National Title game the last two years.. SEC 2 Big XII 0. youmad.jpg?

First off, McCoy is as good in college as Manning was, if not better, let alone Brady.

You forget Manning would have a hard time winning a sprint race at the special olympics.

Secondly, regardless of how good he is individually, Colt is every bit as key to the offense as Manning or Brady is to theirs.

What you're saying is like saying "oh Rodgers hasn't won a super bowl, he's nowhere near as important to the Packers as Manning is to the Colts."

No. What people said was Colt was important to Texas as Manning is right now to the Colts. I'm sorry, but just no. I don't care if they are compared to each other while in college, but I'm not comparing them that way. People compared PRO Manning/Brady to COLLEGE McCoy. That's just stupid.

What Rodgers being compared to anyone means to this though.. is beyond me. Bradford was every bit as key to the offense as well, but that sure didn't stop certain people from saying 'if you can't win without one great player, then your team wasn't great to begin with.'

Maybe Texas just wasn't that great?

Hi, it's awfully convenient how quickly you forget I defended OU that whole time while you, and everyone else, gave me shit about it for the entire year, literally up to the final week of the season.

Also, the 'idiotic fumble from inside the 5"? You think Colt would have seen the BLINDSIDE HIT? Colt's good, but he still would've gotten hit/fumbled in that situation.
You think Colt McCoy walks up to the line and sees there's an end out wide on a play where the LT is blocking inside, leaving that guy 100% untouched, sits in the play, and is utterly oblivious to that entire side of the field?

No, you don't honestly believe that. I will not allow myself to believe I'm arguing with people that ignorant.

Just shut the fuck up though. Last I checked in the National Title game the last two years.. SEC 2 Big XII 0. youmad.jpg?
I'm quite amused actually, because absolutely every single person here knows bama hit the fucking lottery to even avoid getting utterly embarrassed.

I'm even more amused because going into this game, I was worried about the fact that Bama looks really scary going forward. But now, after seeing how they were going to get dominated this year, how they didn't get so lucky and did get dominated last year, and knowing that Saban's NC win was against an OU team that k-state absolutely thrashed a few weeks before and had no business being there... yeah. No worries. Long as they keep taking out the other scary SEC teams in the title game

    Agonizing night for Texas QBs
    Dan Wetzel

By Dan Wetzel, Yahoo! Sports Jan 8, 3:53 am EST

PASADENA, Calif. – Colt McCoy lined up about 7 yards from his dad, Brad. This was inside the Texas locker room underneath the Rose Bowl bleachers, the Longhorns quarterback missing the biggest game of his career, about to attempt the most important throw of his life.

Colt had the ball and was going to pass it to his dad as a slew of doctors and trainers watched closely. How many times had these two thrown a football back and forth, from their yard in little Tuscola, Texas, to the practice fields of Jim Ned High School, where the dad was the coach and the son was the star?

“Millions,” Colt said. “Millions of times.”

Colt had just lied to the Texas doctors and said that he was capable of returning to the BCS title game against Alabama. A hit by the Tide’s Marcell Dareus, on the fifth play of the game, had sent him to this locker room. He wanted back out there. So he tried to sound convincing despite the fact his arm felt “like a noodle.”

He hadn’t come this far to sit. Colt McCoy was going to lead Texas to the championship. He believed this. He’d always believed this. When he went down, he said, “We were about to dominate.”
They weren’t going to lose, not where the Longhorns had last won a championship in 2005, not against a team against whom they’d never lost, certainly not 37-21, as the scoreboard would show after 60 minutes.

Yet on the TV in the corner, he had seen it all fade away in his absence. Alabama was rolling; Texas’ early lead was long gone.

So Colt gripped the ball, stared at his dad and thought, “It’s just a simple throw.” He threw. The ball went soft and wide. Everyone grimaced. “Give it to me again,” Colt demanded. Brad got the ball and gave it back to his son. The next throw was the same, bouncing harmlessly away. “Give it to me again,” Colt said, again. Brad did.

It was the same. It was over. Colt couldn’t throw it 7 yards to his own father. “My arm was dead,” he said.

“There’s no pain on my body,” Colt said later. “If I was a free safety, I’d go out there and make a tackle. I [just] have no strength to throw a football.”

    Seriously?

Have you gone retarded on me?

Including the NC game, disregarding the fact that he went out injured...

He not only has almost 500 passing attempts in 14 games, he's also the 2nd leading rusher with more attempts than anyone else.

I don't even know why I'm arguing at this point, you have to be trolling or something to say McCoy isn't as important to his team right now as anyone at any level of football.

It's like you saw the OU game and the NC game and never saw Texas play the entire rest of the time he was there.

You know, the 4 fucking years where he started every game and won more than anyone ever has.

What Rodgers being compared to anyone means to this though.. is beyond me. Bradford was every bit as key to the offense as well, but that sure didn't stop certain people from saying 'if you can't win without one great player, then your team wasn't great to begin with.'
I don't know who those certain people were (wait, yes I do... you), but I certainly never argued that Bradford wasn't hugely key to OU.

Maybe Texas just wasn't that great?
You're right, they weren't that great. Being in a position to win with your backup, freshman, never done shit qb, against the national champions, who just utterly devastated a Florida team 90% of you would claim is 2nd best? Embarrassing.

On the flip side, if Texas had ended up winning the game, there would have been no end to the people saying LOLOLOLOLOLOOL WHO NEEDS COLT MCCOY. HOOK EM LOLOLOLOLOL. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.

At the end of the day...

Injuries are a part of the game, folks. Texas couldn't handle the nebraksa pass rush, they couldn't handle the Bama pass rush. That LB for bama is a freak of nature.

If your team loses, then it's because the other team beat them. 20 years from now no one will put an asterisk next to this title because colt got hurt. If your team loses, it's because the other team beat them... again. Not because "if we wouldn't have fumbled" or "if the ref didn't make that call" or any of that nonsense. Thats homerism. If the shoe was on the other foot, texas fans, if suddenly you were in a world where Ingram went out on his first carry and the lack of a running game killed them and Texas won, I can't believe for a second that you'd give a shit. None of you would be lining up to sign a "Bama was better and should have won had their star player not been injured" petition.

God, nothing is worse than sour grape sucking homer fans that can't just say "oh well, next time" and move on.

Well said Nystul. All of this pointless speculation is pointless. The ONLY way to determine what team is better is to play a game. Alabama won, they are better. Tough shit if your QB got injured. If it really makes you feel better to think in your mind that you thrashed Bama with a healthy McCoy, go ahead. But no, no one else feels that way.

And now for something completely different (i.e. a post not containing herpderping about the NCG):

    Seahawks, Carroll reach deal

I'm sure this can't go any worse than his stint with the Patriots. But this will probably determine if Pete Carroll is capable of being an NFL coach (some people aren't, it's not a big deal you guys).

    TTU renamed "Tommy Tuberville University"

I don't know if this is good or bad for TTU. Tubbs is a good recruiter and a good coach, but if he takes out Leach's system, it could fuck things up for them.
