I'm guessing you do. I tried doing orange juice and it told me I didn't have the required craft high enough. I'm like Lv.2 cooking. I'm still getting this message @ Lv.3 Synergy. I've been lvling by trading my blacksmith's smock. Retarded I have to do it this way.

Has anyone found recipe's for anyone who has smithing lvl'd to skill up in synergy using that skill.

What is the absolute minimum skill in Cooking required to do Orange Juice synergy? I am a lv.8 Recruit and it still denies.

Is it a pattern that you need to have hit the cap for a normal synth to even attempt it for synergy?

What are people using their training on? Any Rhyme or reason/strategy here yet? I did 1 in fewell and on my 2nd one but don't really wanna make a big screw up on what to level up once more is known.

Hey Guys I went to kill this, got the evolite and went back to windurst to mess around with Synergize and my Engetsuto.

Here was the final result ^^

    http://www.ffxi-europe.com/Engetsuto.jpg

This is what I learned ::

    - The NUMBER 4 was required to insert this particular Evolite!
    - Engetsuto can have max number 6.
    - I synergized the Engetsuto + Mordant 75 several times resulting in the number 3. Lots of Number 2s and finnally on my 7th Synergize attempt I got the Number 4 ^^
    - Once I had the number 4 on my Synergized Engetsuto I traded that Engetsuto + my Evolite and then I just had to feed 36 Lightning Fewells to make the result showned here.

    WHAM BAM THANK YOU MAM
    - My new Sam Bird Merit PT Polearm is RDY ^^

    ALLRIGHTY PEOPLE! ^^
More Synergy notes from me ::

Wearing -%dmg gear like Earth staffs and Jelly Ring seems to lower the damage of overloads.

If you haven't got an Apron and / or possibly you have no Crafting skills at all?
    - But you would like to get started on Synergy.
    - Then you can use the following method and probably hit at least level 40 Synergy skill easy

    1. Start off by levelling cooking 1->10 this can be done pretty fast in Windurst Waters by synthesing Orange Juice, buy the Oranges from the Sauratauruba Region Merchant.

    2. Once you hit level 10 and trade in your "Salmon Sub Sandwich" for Rank up to Recruit Cook, then you are ready to begin Synergizing.

    3. Find a Synergy Furnace and trade 4 Oranges to begin Synergizing an Orange Juice's. The goal here is to earn at least 125 Cinders that you get from successfully Synergizing items. So it probably requires 2 successfull syn's.

    4. Once you got 125+ Cinders, Talk to the Synergy Engineer NPC -> Trade Cinder -> Buy a flash of Mordant 75 and possible also a Revertant.

    5. Next you got to get yourself a high level weapon that can hold Evolite and thus is Synergize-able.
I suggest you buy a cheap NQ Behemoth Knife or an Engetsuto.

    6. Congratulations you can now begin to level your Synergize skill from 1->40 by repeating the following method ::

    A) Claim a Synergy Furnace, Trade the weapon + the Mordant 75 to the Synergy Furnace.
    B) 1 or more Elements should have a Target number so start Trading Fewell like crazy to one of those corresponding elements and keep spamming this until the synergy fails.

    - You can then reclaim your Mordant 75 and your Weapon and repeat the above A and B steps to raise your synergy skill from 1->40ish.

    - Do NOT END the Synergy if you hit the target number(s)! Unless you want to earn Cinders, but then you have to use the Revertant to reset the weapon back to a base type weapon with no evolite slots.

    - Have fun ^^

It takes time AND Gil to refill the Synergy Furnace elements but I think this is the cheapest method to raise your skill so far.

So I tried yesterday to turn my Ebon Harness into Shikkoku Togi.
Fire25 Earth22 Dark32 iirc because it was late as fuck when I tried. Failed about 25 times to match the elements before I decided I´d go to sleep. Had Bonecraft100 Leather100 Smithing60 Goldsmithing60 in party. What the fuck is this shit. I raised all elements above the value you are given when you trade the Items to the oven. Never got the message Synergy is taking form. What am I doing wrong or am I too retarded to do this?

The values are targets, not minimums. Going over is just as bad as going under.

Anyone know what the hidden effect is for Goldsmith's Smock?

I'm surprised everyone is leveling the various techniques so much. You obviously can't raise them all to cap and right now there's no way to reset them...seems like you can get stuck with a horrid setup with no way to undo it.

Just mash dark and whatever the other element was until they reach the target level. Pay attention to whichever one you do first since it can leak out. Even if it blows up, most of the elemental strength stays. When both are at the proper level, select end synthesis or synergy or whatever.

That's where you went wrong. You need to be +/- 4 on the targeted amount, best will be of course aligned.

Just bought a stack of mithril leaves for 100k sigh. Will just use and sell them back for high price when I hit 50 I suppose.

I wouldn't suggest making things way above your level. It will cost you alot more gil in the long run. Each time the furnace explodes you lose a random amount of fuels, that can be like 500 gil gone per boom. And stuff way higher than you will go boom pretty damn often. But if you're rich go for it.

Easy way to skillup seems to be to make Culinarian's Cuffs for yourself or a friend that has cooking high enough. Failing the synth till about 28 where it seems to cap then completing it. Then work on any smock till 40+ and complete it.

The cuffs give Cooking: Water Affinity. Which stops water overloads w/o decreasing durability and is more reliable then an ordinary Thwack. You can start the Mythril Nuggets and fail it to 50 by starting with feeding it Water fewell first to about 40. Then Fire until about 10 where you switch to Earth till 27 then back to Fire to 54. Doing the feeding this way makes nearly all of the overloads Water. All you need to do is stop them fairly easily with Cooking: Water Affinity.

You even get skillups using the Cooking: Water Affinity to stop water overloads. You'll get the occasional fire overload as well. Thwacking it repeatedly can stop them and give skillups also. Best to have NPC special actions unfiltered so you can see when its readying an overload.

If you manage to get the End Synergy message before 50 close the menu and move away from the Furnace and it will instantly fail the synth. No sense in actually completing the synth ever at the current price for materials.

It seems that leaks stop if you feed it the element that is weak to the leaking element. That is, if you're leaking water, feed some fire to stop it. I guess the leaks are caused by being excessively negative in an element?

Edit: sometimes it takes several tries, and you might need to even bring it into the positive numbers.
