Sorry if this has been answered, but is it possible to revert gear back into the base form? Say I make an Ebon Jerkin to hold me over until I get around to redoing ACP, would it be possible to later turn it back in an Ebon Harness and toss it back on the AH?
Yes, there are 3 aptants used just for reverting the pieces
Not sure it will help anyone, but I suppose I'll give my own skillup advice.Originally Posted by In regard to skilling up, and thwacking
If you're doing skillups on, say, rdm/whm, I don't really mind explosions so I don't use thwacking. What I do for faster skillups is this:
Macro1:
/targetnpc, /wait 1, /item "Blacksmith's Apron" <t>
Macro2:
/ma Viruna <me>, /wait 1, /targetnpc
Thwacking can fail, and it takes time and attention to change menus to do it. I just watch TV etc and just use these two macros and pretty much spam the enter key, and that's my way of skilling up. It's even easier since my apron is fire, and therefore I don't have to do any scrolling for feeding. I find that little macros like this really save a lot of time and make skilling up more hands-free. I have no problem watching subtitled anime while skilling up this way.
You can get plenty of feeding attempts / skillups while the furnace is exploding. Maybe up to 3? Idk. I actually dual-box my chars and just have them both spam till it explodes, viruna, rinse and repeat.
So this keeps getting more and more disappointing. A shocker, I know... The first aperture on the shikkoku togi can take an 8. After trying tons of times to get an 8 on the second one, failing, erasing, and trying over; I finally got an HQ on the second that resulted in more cinder than normal. It was still just a 6 though, the highest I've gotten on the second so far. So I erased and then etched the first again, and then traded to the NPC. He says the second aperture is a max of 6, and the third aperture looks like a max of 5. This means the togi cannot have any acc or attack that are over a 6 for a vs. evolite.

Close enough for now I guess, not like there's anything useful for a monk to go in the open triangle anyways.
Other pieces are,
Hatsubari 6 > 4 > 3
Kote 5 > 3 > 2
Sune-Ate 5 > 3 > 2
Haidate 5 > 3 > 2
if anyone was curios about those.
Some more data for the mill: I've got a full set of furia rdm/brd/blu armor, and just ran it through the etching process. (Wish I'd checked it on ebon first to see differences, but I was too busy suffering through killing aptant NMs 35 times).
All 5 pieces take etchings of: filled upward triangle, filled upward triangle, open upward triangle.
The element choices are fire/wind/lightning/light, ice/earth/water/dark, fire/wind/lightning/light for all 5.
Max strengths for the three etchings are:
head: 6, 4, 3
body: 8, 6, 5
hands/legs/feet: 5, 3, 2.
I wasted the time and money to get a maximum set of etchings in each, even though I'll just have to wipe them and do it again if I ever find Evolith worth using, to make the elements match. (Body was much harder to get right than the rest, for me.) At least it looks impressive to the other 3 people playing with synergy...
You know, the part that stands out is the fact that your gear is the Furia set and Light Alignment was your choice for your first slot whereas Ebon gear is Darkness Aligned for the first set. If the colors denote what the first slot is aligned to (Light or Dark) then mage sets will probably benefit more from a dark alignment on the first slot, and melee's a light alignment on the first.
No kidding! I got pretty lucky on the hands/legs/feet. Head's third was unpleasant, and body took a lot of tries on second, and third just kept exploding no matter what I did (the Super-Fancy Goldsmith Anti-Explodey Skill isn't all that impressive so far). I probably blew around 100k before body finally worked out. At least I got a lot of thwacking practice, heh. More than one person is definitely recommended. Also recommended: not using the same element more than once on a single piece...
Yeah, seems like that might be "the difference" between ebon/furia (dark/light/dark vs. light/dark/light). No idea about ebur, but considering how much harder it appears to be to get, it might do something more interesting. In any event, I'm operating under the (possibly wishful) assumption that there will be more Evolith in the future, and that it will be more relevant to me. As far as what's currently available, I've just been aiming to get some cool looking stuff before most other people, before some theoretical future rush. The currently available Evolith doesn't appeal to me, so far, so aiming for particular socket types gets subverted to aiming for something that looks spiffy, heh.
Thanks. Made Majestas last night with 3 etchings.
First: Weapon Skill, Light Element, 8
Second: Skillchain, Light Element, 2
Third: Magic Skill, Dark Element, 5
Not really sure what I will put on this.... Only good thing for what I was planning on using it for (BRD macro piece), was the Magic Skill and looks like I need to kill Scylla >.> lol. Altho I am still trying to get my head around the system and will wait and see once more Evoliths have been found.
2 of us made the Majestas last night and both of us got the same options on both type and element for each etch in first and second slot. Only different factor was the Value. On third slot we got the option to pick what element we wanted but had to be Magic Skill. Guess we stuck with these bleh. We also made a Sarissa and Machismo which got different options than Majestas.
I posted this over in the Hunts/Evolith thread,
Sorry for posting again. Thought it might be relevant to both discussions as a lot of this stuff is.we've not really seen much from the Ebur (white)pieces yet. It's been shown that, for the sets of armor that derive from the base "Ebon Harness" set (Jerkin, Vest, and Shredder thingy), that
*the Ebon(black) version of these upgraded pieces can house: 1(Dark)Filled up-pointing Triangle, 2(Light)Filled up-pointing Triangle, 3(Dark)Empty up-pointing Triangle
*the Furia(red) version of these upgraded pieces can house: The same as above. Only instead of 1Dark,2Light,3Dark, it goes 1Light,2Dark,3Light for furia pieces.
I saw a couple people point this out already but I just want to draw the distinction further. Here are two references,
(1)Michaldue's furia and ebon sets, with both "Vest" and "Shredder" (not gonna try to pronounce ;x) set variants
(2)Viq's ebon piece, from the "Jerkin" set
(3)I just got lucky with some aptants today and toyed with my ebon pieces from the "Vest" set,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...g?t=1260996842
So it's easy to pick out that the 3 "Ebon Harness" (Vest, Jerkin, Shredder) sets are consistent in both shape and element.
And we know that the aperture sizes the piecescan hold vary based on equip slot. So,
Aperture Sizes
Body: 8, 6, 5
Head: 5(6?), 4, 3
Hand: 5, 3, 2
Legs: 5, 3, 2
Feet: 5, 3, 2
If I said anything wrong lemme know. So finally the system is starting to become a little clear. But what's still unclear is Ebur. I'm interested, if Ebon and Furia are elemental opposites, then perhaps Ebur is something different. Hopefully, different in that it can hold different aperture shapes?
Could be just elementally different, like perhaps it'll let you pick from any element in each slot. Maybe the aperture sizes are bigger? Maybe you can etch a 4th? Maybe nothing so nice as any of these ideas. Someone hurry and get an ebur piece done! ;x
From what I can see, only Scylla, Oupire, and Zirny drop it, making it much harder to get than the other pigments which are soloable.
And I have another question as well. Does anyone have any advice on Aperture HQ'ing? Is it just as uncontrollable as HQ'ing in normal synthesis? Just this past hour I made my first HQ attempts, but I didn't seem to make sense out of it. Are you supposed to do something when you see an elemental surge? Do more surges mean better chance of HQ? If you surge and then finish the synth soon after, will HQ chance be higher?
Will trying to maintain a perfect elemental balance be the best chance of an HQ aperture? I didn't seem to notice any consistencies at all. Not too worried about it yet but I can see that in time it's gonna be a bitch.
I have some questions that I hope wont leave me angry in the end. (been through the thread with no luck finding these answers)
EDIT: found someone with an upgraded harness and got some of these answered.
So I got my ebon harness and my aptant: pera...
1) It is synergy to upgrade this to the ebon jerkin? and do you need a specific level to do it? answered
2) do i have to use synergy myself or can another synergy crafter be in pt and i can trade my stuff to his furnace?
3) is there anything else that i need besides the harness and aptant to upgrade it? answered
i'm hoping i dont have to level synergy on 2 characters cuz i already started on my main for a future sarisssa slotting.... /sigh
thanks in advance

Pop that page into a translator, has some etchable gear.
Someone needs to start a proper list.
As far as I know you have to be the person in control of the furnace and the person that trades the items to the furnace. I haven't tried anything outside of that. It'd be awesome if someone could trade in an aptant or a pigment for you because that stuff is ex which is odd. But as far as I know you need to trade in all the ingredients and be in control of the furnace to get the item.2) do i have to use synergy myself or can another synergy crafter be in pt and i can trade my stuff to his furnace?
Other than that for the rest of the requirements like synergy skill level and crafting skill level you can just have someone sit in the party and do nothing and still meet the requirements.
From what I can tell the "HQ" to get the highest possible aperture number is all luck. If you actually HQ the "synth", you get a boost in cinder. Every time I have done this I have gotten the max amount on the aperture. I have also gotten the max number on the aperature w/o HQ'n it. From what I can tell, you just have to have the proper element close to the value required and then it's all luck from there. I've HQ'd them being 1 or 2 over or under, and I have HQ'd them when other elements were not 0 (i.e. -8 or so on light when getting dark to 40). I have also gotten a 1 when I was perfectly aligned on the element target and all 0's on the other elements.
All I was doing was spamming the element as close to the target as I could, and if I over shot I'd use the element that it strong to it to lower it back down. It starts to be a bitch when you get to the third one, especially if two elements conflict each other and you lower one while raising the other. I have max training in the safety lever that reduces impurity, and it seems to reduce by 20% so this helps to keep explosions from removing your elemental strength and reducing durability. I was able to solo etch the third slot on the body, but it is a real time crunch and I ran out of durability many times when I was only one or two feeds away from being finished.
The chance of a HQ go up drastically as you get closer to perfectly aligned on the target elements, though as stated its still not a guarantee.
For my 3rd concordia slot, I got NQ on 40/40/40, then HQ on 40/40/39. I wouldn't recommend ending with more than 1 total away from perfect alignment, maybe 2 if capped at 50. It also seems that closer to perfect HQ has a better chance of getting the max value.
I think it also becomes easier to hq as your level increases--for example, the amateur synths like removing apertures almost always HQ, regardless of the balance.
My HQ 3rd slot on sarrissa was 60 59, it was only a double element so wasnt too bad.
Fear my blu magic accuracy:

Seriously though, why the magic slot :/. Headbutt soloing gooooo~
Thanks to Mac/Khiin for helping me etch it over and over, at least 3rd "non-HQ" slot turned out high this time!
