Bad Motherboard?
So I finally hooked up my i7 machine tonight and had a couple of issues.
1) It's the Intel X58 socket 1366 motherboard.
2) Plugged my headphones into the back of the motherboard, no sound. Heard of this board having sound not work. So plugged it into the front of the case, the PC immediately turned off, restarted itself. This time, all fans (including CPU & GPU) turned on and stayed at full power. Never turned off. Case wouldn't let me power it off w/ the power button, no display on monitor now. Had to turn off PSU switch or pull the plug to get it to shut off.
Now normally, I'd think it's a bad PSU and that the headset on the front of the case triggered something. But after reading some reviews on Newegg about this motherboard and pulling the PSU's main cable to the motherboard (doesn't turn on when I do so but does if I remove one of the other power cables), has me believing it's a crap motherboard.
So, I don't want to deal with Intel and their RMA process based on what I've read. So I'm in the market for a new motherboard. Any suggestions on a new motherboard and anyone else deal with a similar situation?
PS: I got the CPU, MOBO, WinVista Ultimate, Win7 for $300. Otherwise I wouldn't have gone with that board...

Double check the case wiring connections to the motherboard, just to be sure you don't have the front audio connectors hooked up to the reset switch pin.
I know what you're saying guys.. but I speak from experience. I've done it - those little single pin connectors are a pain for fat fingers. Thankfully nothing shorted out and it ended up being a good laugh.

Definitely take everything off the motherboard and reconnect it. Make sure the standoffs are on the board correctly and the motherboard isn't making contact with anything it isn't supposed to. It sounds like something is getting shorted out somewhere.

Replaced motherboard with this, runs much better and quieter actually. So that Intel board was also maxing out some of my fans...

Edit: And I did remove everything to see what had shorted but same thing everytime.
