If someone could come up and kill me in a game, that would easily be a factor for me to not play it. I'm pretty much PVE only so yeah, all of this WvW stuff is just like meh to me.

I dunno. It may be that I like ganking or the idea of being ganked at any time. That or I like the idea of bettering my character and actually seeing results with better gear and not just looks.
Welp, sounds like it's not the game for you. Plain and simple. If gear with stats is your barometer for fun then I wouldn't bother. There will still be gear that says "hey i finished this such and such." But at the end of the day, you're still going to have to prove your worth with your abilities to fight, not just with the gear you have on your character.
A lot of people are making knee-jerk decisions about this game solely based on the videos. I guess people are looking for somebody to reinvent the wheel. Personally, I think the game looks incredible. It reminds me a lot of WAR (which I think would have been a great game barring some awful development/programming). As long as the PvE and PvP don't affect one another one for one (ie like in WoW where ability X gets nerfed because it's too powerful in PvP and it affects the class in PvE) I think it'll be a great game.
I'm not 100% if I had a dream or if they actually said that formulas were different for PVP than they were for PVE. Maybe I'm just imagining things.
So, stupid question. In the PvP video, I know they scale characters up but if you're level 15 going into a level 20 PvP zone, they just scale your health and such, right or do they allow you to have gear/stats/abilities/traits/levels etc?
The guy in those two PvP videos is almost too painful to watch. He did the "Arena" no justice by not noticing that he was only looking at 1/4 of the map, shit if you can even call that an arena.
I'm glad they did not go with the open world PvP concept, it definitely would have prevented me from playing this game. That was the reason I stop playing Aion. Nothing worse than leveling your level 30 character only to get rolled over by a level 50 over and over again.
As far as gear goes. If GW2 is anything at all like GW1 gear is not the focus, they focus on skills and traits. In GW1 you can make a char, get level 20 and max stat gear in less than a day. It is all about the builds through traits and skills and I hope it stays that way(less the whole leveling to max level in a day thing).
I like the XI part where you can't fight people from your own server unless you specifically look to. I'm all for PVP but I like the idea that I will always fight with people from my server against other people from other servers. This will setup some major community drive on each individual server vs the normal bitterness between guild.
Really hoping their big announcement comes today and is a release date. Want this game yesterday. >.<
Ugh, what class to playI want to get into beta so I can at least figure that out ;/
Is there any game that does open world pvp right? I've played Rift, and the pvp there wasn't too hot.
I guess it would depend on what your definition of right is in regards to open world PvP. I'm sure people have different ideas on what open pvp SHOULD be like. For me, WvW is looking like what open PvP should be like.
Tarren Mill/Hillsbrad was a war zone back in the day. Also, open world PvP isn't a deal breaker but when you can't consistently be ganked purely based on somebody being an asshat....it sucks. Also, they could borrow more from WAR and make it where you turn into a chicken if you attack a lower level player by X levels.
Well, i should correct myself, every now and then in some higher level zones there was some big fights going on (Rift). I think having more than two sides would have helped make it more fun.
PvP rifts in Rift were pretty cool. I like the idea of it.
Yea, pvp rifts were pretty much the catalyst of big pvp fights. I would have made pvp impossible in lower level zones, since there were no pvpr rifts there, and it was really just ganking before you reached level 45.
