If there is something you should know, it's that a first impression in a mmo is likely to change. At no point did I say the game will not be succesful in its early stage, my worry were addressed at the long term.

I fail to see how saying what I quoted about a game that has no carrot chasing (supposedly you can easily get the best gear after hitting max level) nor endgame is not "being uninformed". That's not exactly a matter of technical details. You've been talking about things that simply don't exist in this game.

I don't even disagree with you. I don't believe in an MMORPG Jesus either (I'm hoping to change my mind with this game though). All I'm saying is if you're going to complain about how the game might do badly long-term, you should at least make sure you are bringing up real issues. Some of your posts over the last pages reek of "I don't know what I'm talking about".

I just realized how pointless it is to debate over the internet. More videos, Taki, more! (No, stop, I have to do homework!)

I dunno Kaylia, I've had some of the same doubts/concerns about the long term, I won't deny it. I'm not even a fan of WoW style gear progression, but even I'm unsure about that aspect of GW2 (although if it maintains something like an FFXI~ level of side-grade progression, throughout the time it was capped at level 75, I'd be satisfied). But overall, this seems to be capturing my interest and hope for a game in a way that nothing has since XI.

I won't deny that the possibility exists that 3-6+ months in it'll become repetitive and/or not have enough content to satisfy a significant playerbase, but I'm hoping that it'll put a spin on it's grind in a way that will keep people interested and playing (even if casually) over the long term. Besides, with no sub, it's entirely possible to keep a sub up for something like TERA/Archeage (if/when)/etc. alongside it long term to help balance those slow months on either game. That may be what the future is, not a single MMO for half a dozen years like a lot of us did with XI. Maybe that's the balance. I don't know, but I think I'll have fun finding out, regardless. :3

Being cynical about it in the way you're being right now makes you just seem like a killjoy.

What all are you expecting to happen in the long term? Why are you thinking of the long-term when there is no subscription to play that ties a need to getting your values worth? I don't understand why the long term needs to be thought of right now when only a few people have actually played the game. Would it not be easier to wait and play then formulate a gloom and doom?

lol yea all new players, not one of them even weapon swapped either, but it was nice to see how fast the thf can take people out.

this one will change everything, come on how can this not be the best game of all time? if you don't love it based on early reviews and completely honest devs you must be a TROLL! troll!!!!!

trolling aside, i'm still interested in the game but the unbelievable amount of hype emanating from this thread makes me kind of laugh.

It's amazing how easily the uninitiated fall into a stereotype.

If you want to know why the hype exists, all you have to do is talk to someone who's played the game and stop shitting up this thread (even if you are contributing to the page count :d).

I like heated debate, I'm not trolling.

It doesn't really matter if GW2 generates complains or not to be honest. What I'm saying is that most playes who have been hunting for a new mmo are going to try this one, and put it behind one or two months later like they did before, wondering why no one can recreate the nostalgia of their first love. That's what I'm looking forward.

No, but are we talking about an hypothetical player, or a real one made of flesh and blood?

This game is going to have its hardcore playerbase if thats what you're asking. It's not the point I trying to make however.

Because it does. Your comment was based on the idea of 'one and done'. However, not having to do the same exact thing as everyone can make a journey feel unique and give you that enjoyment. Taking another path up the mountain will always be more interesting than following the same path for the 10th time. The main issue with swtor, besides bugs, was that it felt exactly the same when you crush out the storyline. It was a straight up line. You could literally draw a line on the map for quest progression. This was the same for WoW and Rift.

So what? How does this make the game less fun for others? How does not having 1400+ events make a game more interesting? How does it not add long term enjoyment?
As long the game manage to produce "unique" experiences, it's great, but I'm convinced that this feeling isn't going to last forever. When events lose their magic, that's when endgame grind truly begin.

There seem to be a general consensus amongst the replies I get that GW2 is going to generate so much original contents that it will take a long long time before it get old, but I disagree. It's charm is going to last as long as any other games (mmo or not), and beyond that point, it's thing like pvp and overall community that will keep it together. However, the community is doomed already since the expectation are way too high, and it's going to be a casual magnet. Actually, casual are the one who keep jumping from one game or the other, the hardcore playerbase is spread out between every other mmo.

Why 1400 events doesn't make the game more interesting? Because quantity doesn't matter as much as quality and diversity. What if Nintento told you the next mario is going to have 1400 stages? Wouldn't you be worried about the quality? I know I would.
To me, this 1400 events sound like "1400 scripted group quests that are flagged automatically", and it's probably going to be as interesting

Because all the experience accumulated during these 23 years of gaming doesn't count since Guild Wars 2 is going to revolutionize the gaming world, and we can't even begin to imagine what kind of awesomeness it will put us throught...right?

Competitive pvp is where the game has the best chance to shine since its one of the best hook you can have. However, I will be impressed if most are actually going to play it for this. PvE is going to end up like every other game.

The first guildwars excelled in this area where HA put several different countries and regions of the world against one another. It was very interesting to see different people from around the world beating eachother in HA and seeing who was holding halls. I really liked this idea and I hope this game ends up being as popular if not way more popular than it was back when the first one launched. Its so fucking awesome playing a game with such a large playerbase. I really like that about guildwars, how it doesn't have a monthly fee, it attracts a whole lot more people to the game.

As far as having a stable guild goes you're always going to have casual players and people that don't really play very much. As a guild leader in the last guildwars we pretty had a 1 month innactivity rule for people in the guild. With 100 people max per guild it was ample enough room. Some guilds were a bit more intense though and had a 1 week innactivity rule.

People are switching to this from SWTOR, FFXIV, or WoW because they want to be involved in a new mmo. If you're telling me that GW2 is a 200 hours online games that you're going to play through once (or twice), and put down, then I have no gripe against this. This is what I think the game is supposed to be and what I was planning to do. However, it's not what people seem to think it is.

About end game, I'm fairly certain I read in an interview that guild rewards were going to take a lot longer to unlock. This is where I thought the "endgame" grind was. Feel free to correct me about this.

I've been looking forward the game since the first video/interview. The reason why I'm being negative right now is that the hype is going overboard lately. Coming here and seeing people praise the games for its "1400 events" make me very worried about how easy they are convinced.

There is many way to look at endgame. You talk about "gear progression" in WoW, but personally, it's the challenging fights and the race toward server first that I enjoy. I have virtually no attachment for the gears, it's just a side consequence of that race. In FFXI, I enjoyed all the theorycrafting that was possible because of the small community. I could actually make discovery in sea or salvage that I wouldnt have been able to in most mmo nowaday. In lotro, the grind itself was boring, but I loved the lore behind the new dungeons, and that alone kept me in.

But that's just me. Most people only care about gears and/or stats.

Being cynical about it in the way you're being right now makes you just seem like a killjoy.
"Seem"? I was hoping to be one.

I didn't came here to make any friends, but I do hope that people will reflect on the subject when the rage will wear off, and read beyond the numbers the company toss at them to build the hype.

This isnt the mmo you're looking for, its only like half a mmo.

The FFXI community/theorycrafting will never happen again unfortunately.

From what I've seen/read there will be enough PVE to keep me happy. Multiple characters, non-stop world events, tons of exploration etc. I know you weren't talking to me, but like 5 pages ago someone was.

Good thing you could kick offline members, some company haven't caught that yet.

I think the situation will be even more extreme in GW2 since it's more accessible, and the casual:hardcore ratio is going to be higher. The launch and following months is actually going to be interesting to watch from a game development perspective. It should give us a good indication of what we can expect in the future.

You probably only read that part, but that's not what I was saying. I was just pointing out what "endgame" meant to me, and how different it could be from one game to the other.

I already said that earlier, but for now, it's the world I want to explore for now. I'm totally digging the artstyle and huge environment, and that is more than enough for me to warrant a purchase. What will hook me in at max level, I can't tell, it's typically something I didn't expect.
