So, judging by the way that AH screen is laid out, we're finally getting an AH that doesn't suck. My god we might actually be able to look up items that aren't currently in the AH system. I've been waiting since I left FFXI for this.

For access, make an account on the forums, go to the homepage and click Member CP at the top, and then the BG Application link to the left. Fill out the small form designed for BG members (the other one doesn't even work yet) and I'll get around to doing access as soon as I can.

Some quick reading on the guild:

What is Solaris?
Solaris is a flat organizational guild for the working class elitist. Our goal is to provide a comfortable gaming experience for those who take their gaming seriously while also wishing to live their lives without the stress that comes with being in a hardcore guild or clan.

What is a flat level organization? A flat level organization means that the guild has no formal leadership structure and that everyone is here as equals. While the guild still has a leader and officers, the power of these idividuals is limited to crucial guild function such as managing schedules, recruitments, and public relations.

Does this mean that there are no rules? Yes and no. We hold two main rules within Solaris.
1) Don't suck.
2)If you have multiple guilds, we request this is your main guild. Exceptions can be made on a case to case basis.

Is anything mandatory?
No, nothing in Solaris is mandatory. While the guild holds events and would enjoy your company there is no point system or attendance system in place that makes you feel like you have any obligation to the game. We want you to have fun while not feeling tied to the game.

No points? How is loot distributed?
All loot distribution is done at the discretion of the group running at the time. We will not force members to run any specific looting rules or tell them any rules are not viable.

Hey Eanae, I'd like to join, but my main guild will probably be a small guild consisting of real life friends. Would this be an exception? I'd like to hang with the BG group for some fun since my class schedule is super crazy.

Sounds like a bunch of people are going to have guilds running that are kinda separate, but that BG members have a solid "in" to. I'm wondering which everyone is going to join though, between Eanae and Grey and whoever else. ;x I'm definitely interested in getting in with BG too (probably along with a couple friends), but I'd like to see one that's BG specific rather than someone's separate guild that we're all welcome to.

Or at least, knowing which specific guild we all agree on as BG's home on GW2, so that everyone who wants to get in with BG people knows which guild everyone is going to be in, whether that's Eanae's or one made specifically for BG (unless it was? although it seems kinda separate with it's own forum, main guild clause, etc., and just that everyone from BG is welcome). Regardless, I'm sure the support for a subforum on BG is there (and definitely will be by release), and I'm still surprised we're only using one thread (Where is the media thread Taki!?) right now.

I dunno, would just be nice to know for sure one place that everyone from here will be focused on, and that would keep discussion here on BG rather than on a separate forum, imo.

I think the idea of BG being a big gaming community with a lot of affiliated satellite guilds is a great idea. I kinda waited for that to happen for a long time, but it never really seems to work out unless some big-name player on these boards decided to start it up. I mean the main reason Tera is taking off is cuz Sonomaa seems to be heading it up. We didn't have a big admin take the lead on Rift, TOR, and it seems unlikely for this game, so it's probably not gonna happen unless someone in the Cult of Personality steps up and gets it going. Another issue is just how big BG has become and how unruly it really would be to have guilds born from these discussions. It would be a borderline organizational nightmare. But also the reality of it is that it doesn't much matter who you end up playing with cuz you'll always meet cool and interesting people as long as you all gather under the same banner (whatever it's called) with the same goals in mind. The biggest convenience to BG having a ton of guilds would be the simplicity of a one-stop forum for all your guild needs.

I woulda joined any well-organized and led BG-connected guild if it was done right with good oversight a few years back. Stuff like consistent philosphy/goals across any guilds that were e a product of these forums, but that's not really in the card unfortunately. That's pretty much one of the major reasons I started my own gaming community. Plus it was always kind of a dream of mine to do something cool like that anyway, and we do well enough. Heck, I've gotten a few members for Rift and TOR off these forums and many others so I still have a lot of respect for what BG (forums) have become in the past 6-7 years.

That's going to be the case for 99.9% of people so of course.

Essentially it comes down to what grey says. Unless a member of BG ffxi or wow steps up to make a guild its not right to use the BG name since none of us were affiliated with the actual BG name outside being forum users. It looks like anyone who would have fallen under that category is currently playing tera however. As for a BG specific community, it's sadly a bad idea. As someone who's led 2 guilds off BG, there is never enough community interest to get enough done. Extra recruitment has always been required. It worked fine for ffxiv because it was led by BG admins and was a final fantasy game so obviously there was tons of interest The good news though is that by filling with BG members first, it allows the BG community to judge all potential additions. If anything BG as a community should discuss a community server that we all play on. The link shell system will make it easy to organize from there.

Some guys are pro with pad.

But you will have to make own xpadder profile, probably. Since this game plays a bit like an action game, there might be some reasons to do this. Dodging/blocking is much easier with pad. And 10-15 skills are no problem. Only difficulty is ground targeted stuff, might depend on what profession you play and how good your aim is. Like doing crazy teleports in a PvP map, well nah, forget that if you're using pad

I have a setup where I can easily switch PC output to TV, so I will probably chill in couch with gamepad while exploring solo when friends aren't on, doing farming/events etc. Then switch to PC+mousekeyb for more organized stuff & pvp.

Damn it! All these class videos are screwing me up. After watching that warrior video, I want to be a warrior now! I have no clue which direction I want to go, they all look amazing!! Looks like I'm going to be playing a few characters and going back and forth until I can choose one to stick with...

Yeah, I think I'm going to play everything to 10 and then choose from there. Top 3 for me are Warrior, Ranger, Thief. Not far behind is Elementalist. Mesmer kind of dropped off for me after watching a few of the videos.

Sounds good, really. I wasn't necessarily wanting to use the name, as much as wanting to maintain some community and discussion here instead of just moving it all elsewhere ;x As far as actually setting up a guild for BG people to join, you've obviously already put a good deal of effort into it, and I didn't mean to come off against it. Offsite community is necessary regardless really for guild matters and keeping some things private. It doesn't mean the brunt of the discussion wont be on BG. It pretty much always has gone that way.

And I took no offense. I'm trying my best not to stress myself out considering this will be the first major game I play since getting my 44 hours a week job plus a live in girlfriend. But the elitist in me still stands out too much to join a true casual guild. >.<
