I thought they said the sign up was for the 23rd beta event? D:
All invites have not gone out yet. I do suspect they are inviting people outside of the press, just like the last time, but there is no way to know since they will not tell. Press are the only ones to be able to give any info, but I am excited since i suspect this will be the first time we will see asura and sylvari starter areas ever!
DAMN YOU FFXIAH!!!!
DAMN YOU!
Because all official forums suck.
Most large forums that focus on one specific game end up sucking pretty bad. I can't imagine the official forums being much worse than GW2Guru. And since we're talking about ANet here, I imagine that they will take it a few steps further than just a forum. I imagine it'll have some pretty neat features.
Oh man, the thread discussing this on Guru is such a nightmare. Some of the mods there posting in that thread just blow my mind. Especially that Al Capowned guy. Holy crap.
Links to relevant mind fuckery? I don't feel like reading that whole mess.
Well... I got a beta invite...
To a different game... :<
Which game?
I don't want to go digging for it. But a couple of the Guru mods were badmouthing the collective members of the forum. Like, being unnecessarily huge arse-holes about it.
UPDATE: The bigger of the arse-holes got his posts deleted from the thread. That's good.

In case anyone was wondering where a pile of posts went, I deleted them. I found al_capowned's comments to be deplorable unbecoming of what we strive toward as a team of moderators. All responses have also been removed. You guys seem to be under the impression that the administration thinks this behaviour is okay, but it's not. You just tend to not see the "discipline" behind the scenes. However, this time, I will share my thoughts since it seems to be of concern to so many.
Please do not respond to this post as it's not my intent to take the thread off-topic. Any additional comments on this can be directed to my inbox.
Thanks.
Someone on MMORPG.com posted almost all of the "juicy" tidbits from page 1-25 in one nice compact post. Things calmed down by the time it hit page 25, it's currently at page 29. A good portion of the comments came from Al Capowned, but there were other moderators that joined in as well. This is all from the same thread "Building Community" over at Guru.
Guru Mod: All of the Guru crybabies, QQers and care bears will flood their forum with useless, uninformed dribble instead of wasting our time with it. Sounds like progress for Guru and a step back for ANet.
Anet: And I am sure a lot of people might have to adjust their online behavior, which is probably a good thing.
Guru Mod: If you simply ban everyone that acts like an asshat you won't have a community. You can't turn stupid into anything other than stupid.
Guru User: I disagree. If you ban everyone who cannot be civil in a discussion, you are left with... people who can be civil in a discussion. Which invites more people to discuss, if they feel their ideas will be met with respect.
Guru Mod: The problem here is that most of you have terrible ideas not worth discussing.
Guru User: I don't necessarily disagree, but don't you think that's more than a little condescending/insulting? I'm not saying everything needs to be sugarcoated to protect delicate egos, but a little civility rarely goes amiss...
Guru Mod: I don't work for ArenaNet. "Treat everyone like they are a special unicorn that poops rainbows" is not in my job description. The fact of the matter is that the broad majority of discussions that take place on a forum are inane, mundane, useless dribble like "Let's get a petition for more eye colors for the Asura" or "I don't like X because it affects my ability to like Y class" or "This game breaks immersion because it lacks blinking animations during combat". A very quick way to alienate a community is to remove threads like this deeming them as useless as they actually are. Either ArenaNet can A.) Allow this inane, mundane, useless dribble and save all the care bears in Care-A-Lot or B.) Delete it and alienate the community.
Guru User: I think you missed my point. I didn't say you had to treat people like rainbow-pooping unicorns; I also said that not everything had to be sugarcoated. What I did say was that a little civility doesn't hurt. If you want to close/delete a stupid thread -- and yes, I'm fully aware that most of the stuff on most forums is head desk stupid -- then fine. Just close/delete it and be done with it. Open insults about how people are idiots and post dribble are, IMHO, unnecessary, unprofessional, and unbecoming in a moderator.
Guru Mod: I believe that the fact that people take open insults as personal attacks proves they aren't very bright to begin with. IMHO, if you aren't a chin dribbling moron, you look past open insults to the point actually being made.
Anet: And just because official forums in the past have not been a nice place doesn't mean this is the way it has to be. Time for change.
Guru Mod: As much as I have faith in you guys, I am unconvinced that you will be able to bend the entire internet to your will. It's not just about stopping flaming either. That's the easy, straight forward part. We have fairly lax quality standards due to having to cater for the lowest common denominator here (which is now your job I guess) and we still delete a whole world of threads due to low discussion quality.
And yeah, it makes us the bad guys in the eyes of a whole load of people, but we take the hit and those people go on loving Anet and getting grumpy about mean old Guru - but now that's in your hands. You get to be the ones who are faced with 1000 threads asking what your favorite Sylvari eye colour is or petitioning Arena Net to add blinking into combat animations, and you get to be the bad guy who says "No, this is stupid so I'm going to close it".
Or you get to have a forum that's filled with the inane ramblings of people who think the "new thread" button is the GW2 equivalent of their Facebook wall. A place that cannot be used for any serious discussion without wading through a plague of banality. I personally don't think your moderators will be given the claws to make decisions about thread quality in the same way that an independent site can, but I will observe with interest! Thank you for making our lives as moderators of Guru easier, either way, and thank you all for your terrific support of this fan site during the pre-release phase. I hope you continue to post even when the official site is up!
And finally someone made this post a couple of pages later (to which most people agreed to: note this isn't on the same thread as the one above)
"The thing with Guru's moderation is, the mods think too highly of themselves. They thought they would become some kind of internet stars because GW2G would become the "place-to-be" once GW2 launches. And it seems like most of the mods are now becoming a bit butt hurt now that they realize people won't care as much about their site anymore, and that they will be mods on just a fan site, instead of mods on the most popular GW2 forum.
GW2G doesn't allow any real discussion. As soon as you actively start discussing something, the mods will start saying "Get back on topic!", or they just delete some posts without saying anything. You want to create a new thread? Too bad, there's already a thread that talked about this 6 months ago, use that instead. You want to create a new thread to discuss something, but there's not much info released about it yet? Too bad, not enough info=no discussion allowed."
My "Too Long Do Read Version" would go something like this: So when will Sylvari have more colors because I need my immersion at 100% out of the gate.
Warface.
I've never actually bothered to go to any other sites for GW2 info. It seems I'm not missing much lol. Also, wtf at beta invites being sent out shortly? Get an email all hyping me up for this week and nothing! At least I got a job offer, a different beta, and D3 release date!
I got a "warning" there last week and told the mod to fuck herself. Place is a joke.
Remember, they are the self proclaimed "smartest group" of GW2 fans.
Haha touche! That came across a bit more "badass" than I wanted it to. I just think that site is a joke.
Now this guy is a bad-arse GW2 fan:
