Interesting bits:
This means that, to experience every potential storyline being told from level 1 to 10, you’d need to play the game 30 times (5 races times 3 initial stories times 2 internal branches in each storyline). And that’s just the first ten levels of the game. We have 80 levels of progression for your character, and every ten levels or so, you’ll begin a new chapter in your storyGranted, if you’re not the type of person to play the same game 30 times, you can always team up with friends that have made different choices and see how things could have played out differently. We have full support for players teaming up in their personal stories. While the tale will still be told from the perspective of the story “owner,” friends who group up and are on the same story step will be able to share their progress when it is completed.
“What if my friend made a choice I don’t agree with,” you ask? Well, you can always opt out of sharing progress, go back into your own version of that story step, and complete it how you want. That way, you can actually experience all of the story splits with a single character, while keeping your own personal progression the way you want it.

I was expecting more details.
It's pretty cool that if I don't want to spend real money I could use gold to buy gems. I'm not going to be one of those arm chair economists or act like I know what'll happen to the economy of a game that hasn't even been released yet...but I am curious how it will come into play.
Sounds somewhat similar to what Blizzard is doing with Diablo 3, minus being able to cash out. I like that theoretically you can never buy gems and still be able to purchase things with microtransactions. I think this is a great system.
Threads on mmorpg.com are getting ridiculous over this. I don't like guru so i assume it's the same.
People need to realize that this takes 3rd party companies out of the equation. The fact that the game is skilled based as apposed to gear based allows this system to work, much like EVE in a way. People are looking at this as if there's no RMT unless there's a cash shop, which we all know isn't true.
I looked at guru to see their reactions and now my eyes are bleeding. They actually seem dumber than the aion community which is a pretty huge feat. The system is essentially combining the gw1 system with the idea of trading the currency like eve. Its not the end of the world and should have been expected. I have no issue with it given how gear in gw works.
Taken from what people have been saying:
-If 1 gem cost $1, and 1 gem is a 100 gold, what stops RMT companies from selling 100 gold for $.99? (You can "buy" gems cheaper from RMT)
-Since you can buy siege weapons with gold, you're P2W.
-Since you can buy Guild Influence with gold, you're P2W.
Other than that, it's all, "we'll see." I enjoy the way the gems are set up. I buy the game once, and it's free forever. However, if I want to pay a monthly $15 like I would any other game, I just get a bonus. You can farm extra character slots like this essentially.
The general populace being retarded is not a new development.
Correct me if I am wrong, building siege weapons all depend on supply no matter how many gold you spend on blueprints, so it really does not matter. If another team screws over your supply depots, no amount of gold will get ur siege weapons up.
As far as paying $.99 for gold from RMT over doing it in game, its as simple as not wanting to include a third party. is the trouble and the risk worth it? When you can save time and energy just doing it ingame?
From what I have seen in the vids and wiki on what influence does. It is not going to be very game breaking at all.
I was concerned at how it was going to be done but, I do feel its a very good system.
There are a number of huge differences in the Blizzard system. First, their real money system will not be a "1 Way" system. The other being that Blizzard's system will cross multiple products by not being a "gem" system but being an "account balance" system that would allow use of the currency for Diablo, WoW, or any product found in the Blizzard Store.
With the proposed system for GW2, you have a "One Way" system. Any money you put into the game, will never come back out of the game. When you buy gems, you may be able to buy all sorts of in game items/buffs/etc or even gold to buy those same things. You do not have that option to use that money in Lineage, Aion, or the original GW. Which may is not a problem, but it is still very different than the D3/Blizzard system
As for the people who are complaining that you could buy gold for cheaper with RMT, that is always an option. Yet 90% of "normal" players are going to choose to go through NCSoft rather than risking getting screwed/banned/etc by dealing with a third party provider.
P2W IS going to happen to a degree, but if Arena.net's philosophy is going to be what they say, then the amount of "win" they get is not going to be significant.
Maybe I am just naive but what exactly are we paying to win in GW2? I keep hearing people saying it but I really just not seeing it.
I'm going to buy gems and then sell them for gold and then use that gold to buy all the best gear and one-shot everyone in PvP! BRUHAHA! Then I will buy exp boosting potions to race to cap and visit low level areas and just one-shot entire groups of critters and totally trivialize the content! P2W HERE I COME!
Thank god for Karma and the fact that the better gear will come from it instead of gold.
