Could be wrong, but I don't think they have confirmed characters wouldn't be wiped for this beta event. I imagine part of unlocking asura and sylvari is to simulate a launch scenario as much as possible. Wouldn't be surprised if chars are wiped for this.

I'm playing all classes just to get a feel for the animations to see how many are unique and which ones look best.

God forbid I play something that animates like a female Elvaan.

Have a feeling that, after all these beta keys are given out and more prepurchases roll into the game, there will be another stress test between BWE3 and the release date. Hopefully, they'll have to add even more servers. lol

A few bits of useful information for any newcomers:

1) Much like when you started in FFXI, don't make the mistake of not using the "Auction House" (Trading Post). Don't vendor/NPC your drops.

2) Start on a craft ASAP. 8-12 slot bags of various types are a gold mine currently (lol). That won't last, but there will obviously be other in-demand items to be made.

3) The very best way to gain experience points, if playing solely in PVE, is your personal story. A close second is roaming the map completing Renown Hearts and stopping to take part in any Dynamic Events and Skill Challenges along the way. This will also lead to bonus XP and items for complete exploration of an area (which also requires finding all of an area's waypoints and points of interest).

4) Once you've reached level 10, pick up some harvesting tools. Sickles for gathering plants, hatchets for harvesting lumber and, of course, pickaxes for mining. This should all sound very familiar.

5) Finally, when it's time to upgrade your equipment, once again, don't neglect the Trading Post. Most players will post what they believe to be valuable or useful for very reasonable prices, I've found. I had a pretty impressive set on my level 37 Mesmer by the time the last stress test ended.

Excellent post. The ability to put items on the Auction house anywhere in the world simply by opening the tab is amazing and something i kept forgetting about in the previous betas.

TIPS

A few more I've picked up on:

Don't underestimate full clearing a map (100% completion). This will net you some pretty decent rewards (two greens iirc + other stuff).

Karma vendors (the ones in the field) are also a good source for upgrading your gear (matching sets/runes). However, in the higher levels they can become a bit pricey. I would say stock up until ~20+. What's especially nice about this armor is it's a good source of runes you can match up and through the use of transmutation stone keep the buffs when you upgrade (or expert salvage kits if you don't care about the skin).

You wont be able to keep up with your personal story doing just renown hearts/skill challenges/100% clearing maps. However, if you take part in every DE you pass by and you'll level up like crazy + the karma rewards are needed for that shinny new gear you'll want.

Daily achievements are another amazing source of exp for what you have to do so keep those harvesting tools up-to-date with the level of the region you are in.

Remember though the rate of xp gain is adjustable so they may tweak it before release, in terms of not being able to keep up with storyline etc.

I planned on clearing maps before I moved on anyway seeing as I don't have to worry about out-leveling content.

Thanks for your tips guys, will surely help me. Gosh the mistakes I made when I first began playing FFXI lol. Throwing away crystals, seals, crafting materials the lot xD

Mistakes? what? I still did those things just before I quit at level 90 lol

If they make it so you can quickly level up solely through renown hearts I will be very disappointed.

I just mentioned that as every time I saw someone on the beta boards talking about always being under leveled for their next personal story mission/quest they always mentioned "I did all the little heart things in X region and I'm still lvl w/e". It amazed me how much they seemed to get stuck in one area... it's so easy to travel around in this game there is no reason to not do EVERYTHING it's all pretty fun and beautiful to explore.

The value of those items have changed since when I began in 05 and now lol. At that time you would net 10-20m per KS99 and make your own 1-3m from the 5 man ones and that's per person because you could split, crystals where selling like hot cakes just like crafting materials. I most likely threw away more gil then I ever owned in about 7 years of actively playing FFXI lol.

I threw them away when I played last year as well because they are now worthless unless you are building a black belt lol.

Those people need to piss off. They want to be able to go renown to renown, then off to another zone without actually participating in dynamic events or exploring.
