    So about Legendary weapons.

So far what I've maybe figured out is this:

You can buy a recipe from an NPC for 10g that allows you to create one or more of the materials needed to "craft" the legendary weapon. You then buy another item for 200 skill points (possibly more than 1?) to add to the recipe to craft the weapon.

Even without having to gather the materials to use the recipe, getting a legendary is gonna be a loooooooong process simply because of those 200 skill points!

With 3 day head start. So 25th is a bit more accurate.

So I played all night. Have to say Asura has a great atmosphere in the starter area, almost pixar-like, found myself smiling at the dialog a lot. I couldn't make a nice looking Sylvari female, sadly, but made the best browngirl ever with Norn.

Only problem I have with the game is I don't really get the "this is the next evolution of mmo" feeling from it like I kept hearing, still felt really traditional. I did only get to level 5 though (like 4 times).

edit: also I'm on Sanctum of Rall

Strafing is set to Q and E instead of A and D (and turning is put there), that's probably why its weird.

I map 6-10 abilities on different keys because trying to click or use them on their normal keys feels awkward.

And apparently everyone had the same idea as me to only try and PvP this beta. I decided to level a engineer up, got to 6 and noticed my server Gate of Madness captured literally EVERY objective in all 4 battlegrounds. So I decided to just level to 10, and it's full. Wake up at 6am, still been in queue for the past 3 hours. I just wanted to use an arrow cart again

They did purposefully design the starting zones to be kind of a blend between old school questing with the hearts and kind of an introduction to events. Starting zones are actually really light on events for this reason. Once you reach the second zone, events are much more plentiful and there's almost always a meta event of some kind going on.

Either I'm missing something or karma is bugged. I've done 4 hearts and still only have 96 karma. (had 96 karma after the first heart). If anyone hears anything please share. I have not checked the OF yet.

That's how I feel right now, got to lvl 10 on a warrior, but the game is definitely fun. I think I just need to shrug off the hype that it's some kind of huge revolution and the "end all, be all" of MMO future that I have seen a lot of people say. There are tons of fun and interesting parts to it and I would love to see the next wave of MMOs that learn from this and TERA and get away from the WoW/EQ mold.

    Hearts don't award karma.

I have no idea but, if you go to the GW2 wiki it says that karma can be obtained by doing heart tasks. Maybe not implemented yet? I could not remember if I was getting them in the first two BWEs.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it's a mistake, since hearts never awarded karma as far as I can remember. You spend your karma at hearts, but that's about it.

There will definitely be future MMO's stealing from GW2's playbook, but I honestly don't think it will ever be executed well enough to make you feel like you're not playing a WoW clone with a different window dressing(Tera). One reason being that GW2's devs are in a unique work environment. Sure, they have the same goal of making that dollar, euro, and canadian bacon, but they don't run their shit like a giant hamster wheel as with most companies.

I just can't imagine Blizzard making drastic changes for their next WoW incarnation; completely thinking outside the box as these guys have AND actually executing on everything they have told us, so far. I mean, when they first started shit-talking about action-based combat, dynamic events, and throwing out typical endgame as we knew it for the past 2 decades, most of us probably thought it wouldn't work or it wouldn't even be considered an MMO lol

GW2 is going to bank hardcore on this game and potentially steal most of WoW's customers if they deliver the goods on their "end game" months from now. $60 with no sub fee is laughable for the amount of value you get for this game. The only customer-base they would find trouble with are the gaijins who prefer their epeen gear in the form of shit that provides them an advantage in stats. Pretty sure they won't be missed by 99% of the game community.

Think the game is amazing so far and I love the art and design. It's a very pretty game. Also first game since XI to make me feel overhwhelmed and not know wtf to do... unlike every current other current MMO where its pick up a quest and follow the crumbs all around the map.

Jumping puzzles and vista's are exquisite and tons of fun. I just like exploring and then finding stuff do to. Even the noobie events are as simple as RIFT's rifts. Did an escort last night as I was running around w/ some lv 15 ppl (I was only lv 9) and we were doing an escort and had to take the escort to the town... but the town was overrun lol... was really amusing.

and the Sylavri event that takes after Alice in Wonderland and where you can be big or shrink and jump into spider holes is amazing

I have played the "MMO Revolution" and I am bored. I don't really see the appeal and the argument usually dwindles down to THIS GAME HAS NO MONTHLY FEE YOU CAN'T HATE IT ROAAAAR.

Character progression feels thin, world events are just Rifts (success depends on how many ppl are there) and quests are just veiled behind the heart system. It certainly keeps me feeling busy but the core gameplay mechanics just don't feel fun. Seriously, I'm really really trying to like this game but it just isn't clicking with me.

I dont think it will "steal" wow customers honestly. With no sub fee people are free to have GW2 and WoW running at the same time. Most likely people will play WoW till raid content becomes dull as all hell and then hop to GW2 on any day they don't have a raid or anything going on with WoW. Some will just make the leap 100% because they are sick of WoW, but I think a lot of people will purchase MoP to see what comes of it. Now if we get another Cataclysm level expansion I think you'll see a sharp exodus to this game.

All in all so far i'm enjoying it, the combat seems clunky coming from TERA as if it's a hybrid type between TERA/WoW so it takes getting used to and the art style takes some warming up to for me (only character models, the environment is beautiful and amazing..but I always look at armor/character detail) but it has its own niche style much like WoW has its own

What level are you? I hear things get better at 20 so i'm going to push to that and see and make a decision based around it. I wont judge the game yet, because I hated when people judged TERA based on the first 10-15 lvls and wrote it off as well. The events are fun, but it's true that some feel like you just need a few more people to get it done as you get overwhelmed easily. Also my one gripe are the super big boss types, like the Nightmare in the swamps, I have no clue where the fuck hitboxes are on some mobs compared to others, like I'll be swinging right next to them but won't it at all (this happens with portals a lot)

The game is not for everyone, especially if you prefer holy trinity MMO's. You have to change your perception and get away from the questing and gear mindset to really enjoy it.

    -the game world is amazing
    -the combat is fluid
    -lack of trinity is great
    -WvW is just awesome
    -jumping puzzles are fun
-lack of stat based gear progression is great
-explorable mode dungeons are a bitch and therefor fun
-dynamic events are nothing like rifts as these chain into larger events

    What did i miss?

I definitely miss WoW hand holding in starter zones, I can't find where craft shit or what the fuck trophies are supposed to do, but overall , there's fun to be had in this.
