Thats pretty hilarious. I was worried the GW1 would be a joke too. I can't wait to try this out.

lol at the Wilhelm scream on the sniper video.
Ha I was a bit confused at first when I just checked the GW2 site, wtg anet.
New vid.
I'll never understand how a game of such content and magnitude will be able to fund itself.
GW2 won't sell 10 mil lol.
That said, NCSoft has said somewhere recently that they still sell 91k copies per month and now have passed the 7 mil mark for GW1. By no means does this mean 7 mil players though and there are a lot of people that use multiple accounts.
But yea, they'll fund GW2 the same way as always, by selling boxes + in-game store + expansions.
child labour
Because servers and maintenance for online games are free.By selling 10 million boxes.
My point was not "how can you do such good game", but more precisely "how can you do such good ONLINE game".
Even more considering others, Blizzard on top, achieve less quality and still have enourmous monthly revenues and profits.
If you're genuinely interested in this, perhaps check out this thread. (Beware though, the *guru forums are like the ZAM of GW. I warned ya.) But still a few interesting bits in that thread.
Also there's a community rep in that thread who posted this:
Hello Everyone!
This comes up periodically and while we don’t have every last detail worked out I do have a few comments about micro-transactions.
We had micro-transactions in Guild Wars 1 and of course we’ll have them in Guild Wars 2. It’s in everyone’s best interest for Guild Wars 2 to have a strong ongoing revenue stream. Earning money post-launch isn’t primarily to pay for bandwidth or servers; it’s to continue to extend your game experience in fun and compelling ways. If you love your game experience, you’ll certainly want us, the developer, to continue to work on it so you can enjoy your experience for a longer period of time.
The reason this stirs such controversy is that micro-transactions CAN be evil, and in some games it IS evil. As you can clearly see from our actions in Guild Wars 1, it’s certainly NOT our intention to have evil micro-transactions in Guild Wars 2 or any of our games.
More information about micro transactions in Guild Wars 2 will be coming as we finalize the details.

I dunno if I should get GW and start playing? Is it worth it now, or wait till GW2?
Had the same idea back in January, bought the game back then. First of all it's not needed to play GW to understand what's going on in GW2. Though a lot of places you will revisit in GW2 so it's nice to see where they were coming from. For the GW2 rewards only, it's also probably not worth it.
But it's still a very beautifully crafted game and the campaigns are a lot of fun (6th anniversary event next week) but I found it almost plays like a single player "party RPG" now with the 7 hero patch (lets you take along 7 NPC chars that you can fully customize, almost eliminating the need to go in PUGs or with friends). A lot of people do stuff on their own nowadays because it's easier/faster/whatever.
Finished all but one campaign now. But there's plenty of stuff to do afterwards. And working towards the GW2 rewards can be a fun way to set in-game goals.
I'd check out the free trial, love or hate after that.
I'm actually starting to play through GW again. Quit playing during the beginning of Nightfall, so now I'm playing catchup. I'm still bitter over the nerf of Boon/Prot back then, though.
Downloading free trial of GW now... I get paid this tuesday... if I like it, I will buy it.
Is GW2 in beta yet or is anyone playing it? I heard they are even taking focus off PvP which kind of ruins the big aspect of GW, yea?
Its not in beta, and they haven't said much on PvP except that its possible to level to the cap using it as your only activity.
