^ Not all that informative to those of us who have been following the game's development for a while. But interesting to see them going right into more promotional interviews right after the BWE.
As for the HoM blog post, I was impressed with the 3 items they showed. Even if the Ice Hammer does look like a much more detailed and interesting version of the Hammer of the Naaru. I had hoped to see the Flame Sword or at least all 3 of the heritage armor sets.
The post did its job though, I have had at least 1 friend asking me how difficult it would be to get significant HoM points in the next 30 days. Its unfortunate that they are promoting the 19.99 Platinum box instead of making some 35-40$ box with everything. Sure you could probably come close to 30 points without Nightfall and Factions but it would be extremely costly and without major help you would be hardpressed to do it. I would guess that with that box you are probably capable of getting 15 points "easily" with another 3-4 points with a major outlay of money you probably dont have access to if you are new and dont have all 3 mission sets.
At the end of the day, it's just really not worth it to play GW1 "just" for the HoM points. GW1 "rush mode" in under a month would make for a terrible game experience and I don't think GW1 deserves that. Also you can get a much better deal on the game than the platinum box they are touting if people really are gung-ho about trying.
The amount of "I haven't played GW in x years, Help?!" posts have quadrupled today on reddit. Alliance chat should be interesting for the next week or so..
I dunno about the "rush mode"... My friend and I did 30HoM in 30 days back in April and it was a wonderful experience. We really enjoyed playing the game and it just made us want to play GW2 even more.
Our biggest problem is that our GW2 accounts predate our GW1 accounts so we can't link them until they get off of their asses and fix up a system to link accounts after you make your GW2 account. I was given a response from a CM today that said this about name reservations...
"As of now, the only requirement to reserve your name is to log into your Guild Wars 1 account by July 31. But I can't guarantee names on an unlinked account will still be reserved. For now, I can only recommend waiting for updates on when you can link your accounts."
I really hope the GM was talking out of his ass, but there is still a chance. At least none of my names I have in GW1 are "special" enough to warrant people taking.
I'm fairly confident that they will allow us to link accounts and keep our gw1 names before the cutoff. I know a lot of people haven't linked theirs on purpose. I didn't link mine on purpose because the login for my gw1 account is an old email that doesn't even work anymore and I didn't want that to become my login for gw2.
I just want those armor sets. So I bought the GW1 deal. I hope I am able to link it to my GW2 account before release.![]()
i'm sure they said that you can link a guild wars account to your GW2 account any time and still get the HoM rewards, besides the armor is awarded with the first 6 points, which you pretty much get for completing less than half of EotN.
To get six you'd need only a single Tapestry, to dedicate MOX and complete Prophecies. If thats all you are after for you 19.99$ then yup, that is pretty much a joke. You will have to finish Prophecies though, which means putting in some time. As it is the longest (and most tedious) of the mission sets.
As for linking it before release... they have been saying that since April. Yet we havent seen anything about it. With name reservations coming up and them pushing people to buy their Platinum GW1 deal I kind of had hoped they would have shown that to us this week. Course I still am hopeful they will finally open the official forums up before the game launches but I doubt that is going to happen either.
Those videos are just great. Those are the ones that need to be linked to people playing other MMOs right now.
Does anyone else feel that field effects just don't last long enough on the field for you to combo with them? I often found that by the time i noticed a circle on the ground and wanted to use a skill on it to combo, it disappears before i could activate the skill. Only time it ever worked was if i was already very close to the player using it.
I suppose so, i know that when i was laying down field effects i usually bee lined for the biggest pile of people i saw near me.
I think this is one aspect that will require coordination with people you know to be really effective, unless you are combo-ing with your self. I kinda like that its not so easy to do. It may come down to a scenario where combos are needed to help heal or remove conditions etc, during a certain encounter, which means proper communication. Having everyone just dropping combos easily for no reason isnt really fun, especially when the effect in question gets wasted. I think when we start doing dungeon runs it will become more appreciated.
I do think though that unless they want combos to be something we need to learn by heart, there needs to be some indication of field effects that are in play as soon as it happens, but then again after playing FFXI learning skill chains was never an issue. Having an indication that a combo has happened and what effect it has is nice, but I think having a starting field indicator would be also great.
I find the indicators they already have are good enough, at least in telling you that you actually executed a combo. Figuring out how and when you combo took me a while to figure out by reading on the internet. I don't remember any interactive in game tutorial teaching me about combos.
Much like CC, i prefer the short durations of everything in this game. It never really lets you sit on your heels and relax.
The only combos I was able to repeatedly figure out were combo fields with projectile finishers. Anytime there was a line of people using ranged attacks on a boss mob or something I would take my flask that throws up a random wall and throw it down between them. Pretty easy to execute that combo. I didn't really figure out other combos just because I don't know what to look for and what finishers finish what starters. I hope somebody will get a guide up eventually, maybe something along that skillchain chart from FFXI.

edit: some skills do not show that they are blast, projectile, leap, or whirl in their descriptions, but if you use them you will find that they combo
edit: so if it looks like a whirl, try it out in a field and see
How incredibly handy and complete! I feel foolish for not looking there already. I guess I didn't think that walls could be stomped on and give off the blast finisher, but it looks like anything that is a field is a setup for any kind of finisher. Looks pretty good.
Also, had no idea that non-elite racial skills existed. Would explain why my asura thief and engi had some of the same utility skills..
