ok this is a must read!

"We’re giving players the option of choosing external music playlists that the game’s audio engine will use as a replacement for the default in-game music. Players can choose different playlists for background ambience and battle music, for instance. Additionally, when appropriate, such as during cinematics, the game can revert back to in-game music temporarily to give the best possible cinematic experience, then resume the custom playlist when it’s done."
I'm so totally gonna sub in FFXI music in their respective areas.
This is awesome, because personally, I get tired of thematic orchestra music pretty fast. I like how these guys are continually implementing ways to give players more choices to mod/configure the game.
Just when the game couldn't get any better... HOW DO THEY DO IT!
btw before people go thinking Arenanet was first, they weren't. You could play your own music over the games original in both EVE and APB, and i'm sure there are others i've never even played that have done it, its nothing new.
But that was pretty much a built in music player in the background, this gives a couple more options for customization, so thats cool.
In the immortal (slightly different) words of Fry:
SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT! SHIP IT!
I'm not sure why but something about this game turns me off. I'm typically as easily excitable as a 12 year old boy seeing his first porn but this game doesn't draw me in. Maybe it's the lack of info on it (for me anyway) or the fact that it kind of looks more like a platform RPG to me.
Sounds like the game will have an amazing OST.
Arenanet said it best:
They understand gamers because they are gamers. They're pretty passionate about their work and video games. Which is what this genre needs. Young talent with fresh ideas who aren't afraid to step outside the boundaries of "safety".Finally, no matter how fantastic a game’s music is, when you hear the same music for the thousandth time, you start wanting to change things up a bit. Many players will simply turn the game music off and play their own collections. The problem is that an external music player has no context as to what’s going on in-game. Guild Wars 2 will offer a solution for this as well. We’re giving players the option of choosing external music playlists that the game’s audio engine will use as a replacement for the default in-game music. Players can choose different playlists for background ambience and battle music, for instance. Additionally, when appropriate, such as during cinematics, the game can revert back to in-game music temporarily to give the best possible cinematic experience, then resume the custom playlist when it’s done.
They are just adding that "extra" layer to the game (going the extra mile), that most companies won't do because they consider it a waste of resources. But these little things show just how much Arenanet cares. This would be stuff modern-day Blizzard would charge as a premium feature (had to say it)
They've got me eating out of the palm of their hand at this point. I love young, fresh talent, and you can easily see it with Arenanet. Watching this game shape up is absolutely refreshing.
I honestly think you should do more research, there definitely might be something there for you. There is alot of info. ALOT. Sorry but I have to call bullshit on that lack of Info deal.
also Sylvari week!

What are you referring to? This isn't a knock against the Star Wars game, mind you.
In comparison to any other MMO release, these guys have given a ridiculous amount of insight into their game.
They are living up to the hype. It's unreasonable to expect these guys to be anymore transparent than they already are right now. It's not even Beta, yet these guys have already shown they are lightyears ahead of whatever state SE intends FFXIV to be in as a finished product.
(excuse the redundant use of "these guyz" lol)
