Awesome. Maybe this will open up art style for western games that doesn't suck.
I'm gonna go ahead and post the confirmation here.
I'm excited to see more character creation video this week!Hey everyone, I'm seeing a bit of confusion about the G-Star demo. Given that this demo is being presented in Asia and that we are further along in development, we have been able to add in options that make the game look more visually appealing and we have also tweaked it so that the people attending G-Star will find it approachable.
The faces and armors are not region-specific. A few faces that would be more appealing to Asian gamers were added to the G-Star demo. Everyone has access to those faces. We put in some flashier armor for the G-Star demo, but that armor is available as high-level armor to everyone.
Again: the reason you see faces that would be more appealing to Asian markets in the G-Star demo, but not the more Western faces is because this is a demo for a convention in Asia. It doesn't mean that we have [removed] more Western-looking faces from the game, but rather we are tailoring the demo experience to the region. It's good marketing.
There will be a video later this week that will show you just how flexible the character creator is in terms of making faces that are appealing to your preferences--whether it is more youthful features or whether you want your character to be more battle-weary/rugged. So don't stress out about it.![]()
I was excited to see the elementalist dual wielding daggers and basically meleeing. I may be late to the party, but I hadn't seen anything about this yet. Can't wait.
Yep, but not meleeing at all. They cast magic but daggers are catered more toward close (melee) range spells, like that breath attack. None of the scholar professions so far melee (ele and necro), even though they can equip daggers. They do not hit with the weapons at all, but cast spells. Also it might look like melee cus of how dynamic the combat seems and its not about standing still casting a spell.
Bad quality video, close range soloing, there is no auto attack so every weapon based skill used was a spell.

Note the difference in the skills that thief uses with dagger compared to ele.

You will have to wait till tomorrow morning, it was not supposed to go live now, sorry for the unintended tease.
On the upside: As was mentioned, there is a blog post that comes with the video.

NCSoft 3Q FY 2011 Earnings Conference Call
⌐(x_x )<From the Q&A:
"We are planning on conducting a CBT within this year, but for us to conduct a large scale CBT test that can be significantly felt within the market, I think that we are anticipating about the beginning of next year to do that. Therefore, we don't have a concrete schedule yet with regards to the full commercialization schedule for Guild Wars 2, but I'm thinking that it will be not too late part of next year, but some time in the latter part of next year that would be possible, perhaps. But, we will have to wait and see the testing results this year to come up with the final schedule."
So summer then, that sucks LOL
Yeah I would still say they are "meleeing" just because its "melee range" they just do not actually cut with the dagger right? I still find that pretty awesome, to be able to be a "battle mage". I especially like that some of the dagger abilities are kind of "rogue-esque" with teleport/charges and such. With the number of options from Dual Dagger to Scepter/Dagger to Scepter/Focus to Staff there are a great deal of playstyle options to be found. I can only hope that all playstyles are "viable", but as you can swap weapons easily it should be a lot of fun.
I was completely impressed with the new and improved Character Creation. I was surprised that they did not let you adjust the physique's at all though. I know they "borrowed" Aion's creator as a base jumping off point. They have definitely improved things. I especially like the Highlight/base hair color. Now if they could only add stuff like "tatoo/scar/makeup" for the face options and body "tatoo/scar" as well it would be near perfect.
This ridiculous ele was played by one of the anet devs at gstar
