That would be the other reason she would have been a great voice actress for female Charr. lol.
I'm absolutely bouncing off of the walls about this game.
I was just curious seeing as there is a GW1 sale on at the moment. Would you recommend I buy them maybe play them through a bit just to get a feel for the game and maybe get some GW2 rewards? If not then I'll just keep the cash xD
I will have to say NO for play through for feel as the game is a totally different game altogether, GW1 is nothing like GW2 in terms of gameplay. If you want to get a feel for the lore and story then yes. and to get most rewards will have to more than play through a bit. I would say YES to buy as its an amazing game that uses some amazing server tech even back then. The world is beautiful even though its graphically dated by today's standards. I would suggest if you are going to play to concentrate on prophecies and eye of the north, and then do the new missions that help close the gap between the 250 years between gw1 and 2. I have not done these though as the meta game has changes so much and Im like 23 on HOM which im good with.
I thought back then and even now that having the game patch while you are still ingame, in the background is amazing lol. Most patches just had you relog with hardly any downtime. I don't know if its gonna be the same but I know their server tech is sweet.
Edit: I just noticed I can buy the original game plus all expansions for £31 which is pretty nice, sucks I am going to miss the special deal on NC Soft website, under £20 for the lot >_<
A little confused, do I just make a char on Eye of The North?
No, you can start with any of the main 3 campaigns. Prophecies is good cus guild wars 2 takes place on that continent, and much of the history and towns that you will encounter in gw2 has much connection there.. then you need eye of the north expansion which is not stand alone like the other. Its an add on.
Each of the three campaigns prior to EoTN is technically stand-alone. EoTN is mission-only, and connects to all three in some way (it assumes a higher level character, but will pad your level if you go there early). Of course, you can relatively quickly gain access to travel between the campaigns if you have them, and it's beneficial to do so. Elites aside, not all Skills are available in every campaign, plus you have stuff like Hero characters that aren't in the earlier campaigns (introduced in Nightfall). If you want them (and you do), you'll want to make the trip to Nightfall/EoTN areas to get them.
Additionally, if you're really focused on what you want your character to look like (short of using the cash shop to modify it later), each campaign has different character appearances (which are also tied to profession, and not all professions are available in all campaigns). Prophecies is traditional high fantasy inspired, so basically European. Factions is Jade Empire-esque, and has Asian looking appearances to pick from. Nightfall is North African inspired.
I think the general notion is that Prophecies is the slowest progression, but many quests reward you with skills that you'd otherwise need XP/gold to buy. Factions gives a lot more XP/gold, but outside of the very initial quests for your profession pretty much leaves acquiring skills up to you - that said, progression in that is likely the fastest. Nightfall is somewhere between the two, but has Heroes off the bat - GW1 basically gives you a part of NPCs. The ones you can grab in whatever local town/outpost are Henchmen, meaning you're limited by the professions/levels/setups provided. Heroes are ones that you XP up, can gear, configure skills on, command a bit more...generally much more useful.
1. Are any of the HoM achievements that roll over into GW2 worth spending time over winter break for? If so, then
2. I'm not quite understanding how GW1 works; you make a new character for each of the expansions? Do you only play one expansion at a time? If so, then how about an optimal order?
New Relics of Orr episode. Thank GOD. The only podcast I really enjoy. Sorry to you other podcasters. You're all juuuuust a little dry. And when you're not, it sounds like you're trying too hard. But hey! Practice makes perfect. :3

No release date stillfk this game.
1. all of the rewards are cosmetic. Armor skins, weapon skins, mini pets, ranger pets, and titles. So it basically depends on you. you can check them here. http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=welcome
2. No you don't have to make new characters for each expansion but, each one is stand alone and has its own starter area if you chose to start there, depending on where you choose to make your character you are offered different facial customization also, Chantha = Asian, Elona = African. No matter where you make your character you can take that character over to the other expansion areas. So basically you need one main expansion and the eye of the north add on for the hall of monuments.
I suggest the original campaign as guild wars 2 basically takes place on that continent 250 years after so it will be familiar, in terms of city names, storylines, characters.

So i came across this interview that i found pretty good...
http://www.killtenrats.com/2011/11/2...-eric-flannum/
... but better than that is a series of follow up questions that Eric Flannum answered for himself that really show off the transparency Arenanet has going for them
Now, on to important business. There's speculation that the final profession reveal is any day now, seeing as how this is a lull period in new games coming out and its no longer turkey day in the states. They're going to announce the 8th profession first, followed by any beta related announcements. It would be best to get this news in before TOR comes out and steals news time leading up to holiday vacations that take up the remainder of the year. Arenanet has repeatedly stated that they intend to start closed beta testing before the end of this year. If they announce the 8th profession this week that would allow time for it to digest before a beta announcement next week. There are only a couple of weeks left for all of this to happen, and thats when it makes sense logically for them to do it.I wanted to clear up some misconceptions that the way I worded things in the interview may have caused as well as clarify some points that I see people commenting on frequently elsewhere on the boards.
"ArenaNet can't make a perfect game so their iteration process will only result in the game never shipping!"
There are a lot of variations on this sort of statement but the answer to it is pretty simple. Guild Wars 2 is not going to be a perfect game, no game can ever be perfect. The purpose of iterating on a feature is never to make it "perfect" but rather to raise it above mediocre to either good or great. This is especially true if you're doing something that you haven't seen done well before since you have no prior examples to consider when you're trying to anticipate problems. We know the game isn't going to be perfect and we've never stated that as a goal, what we have said is that we want to release a great game and more importantly a complete and polished game.
"There are going to be bugs when they release it so why not just release it now and fix the bugs later?"
In the current western gaming market a game has one chance to find it's audience and that chance occurs right when it releases. The examples of games that have released with huge problems and then stabilized and gained a following after being fixed are few and far between. On the other hand the examples of games that released with a lot of potential, made a bad first impression and have since been relegated to a small audience or have even been shut down are easy to point to. We've all seen where releasing unfinished gets a game and none of us want Guild Wars 2 to fail because it was released before it was finished.
"If the ArenaNet devs were smarter/better/more experienced they wouldn't make so many mistakes and have to iterate so often."
I'll be the first to admit that we make our fair share of mistakes (many of which I am personally responsible for). If you look at the kinds of things that we have iterated on or changed over the course of development however you'll see that almost all of our core ideas remain intact. What we've largely done is iterate on the details which is always going to happen in any game development process. A design document should be all about sketching out the feel and high level goals of the game and not about providing minute details because all games but especially MMO's are extremely complicated projects with a lot of moving parts and nobody I've ever met is capable of anticipating how all of those things will react to each other. Again, this is especially true if you're trying to do new things.
"The game looks so done. Why won't they just let us play it?"
The things we've shown you at trade shows have indeed been pretty polished but it's important to consider the things that you haven't seen or that we haven't talked about. Now, don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the things you've seen are the only things that have been worked on. For example, out of all of our content types dungeons are probably the farthest along in overall development right now. We haven't shown them at any shows because we don't think a crowded show is a good place to show off content that is supposed to be for organized and coordinated groups. All that being said we're definitely getting closer, we'll be revealing the final profession before the end of the year, and we've got a few other things to talk about in the coming weeks as well.
"They must have a date they're shooting for. Why won't they just tell us?"
We do have internal dates and deadlines, lots of them. We don't tell you about them because quite frankly even if we put a disclaimer on things and told you that it was only a "rough date" or an "estimated release" or something like that, we'd be held to it and accused of lying if we didn't make that date. It would put pressure on us to release something before it was ready and as I talked about earlier we really don't want to do that.
I hope that this helps you understand where we're at a little bit better and that this thread can continue in a more positive and productive direction.
