BTW, I am betting that one of the ways to secure access to beta weekends would definitely be pre-order or collectors editions. It wouldn't be a surprise that a release data shows up next month.

It would be good marketing.
And I think they did that for GW1 preview weekends as well.
And since there is no subscription or "30 days free" bullshit, there's no reason not to pre-order. We get to play the game forever. If it sucks balls on release, we can come back 6 months or 2 years later and still play for free.
At 8am PST there's going to be a PvP roundtable released at Insider. Presumably the first time they give real WvWvW info. Set them alarms!
Yes I need an alarm to get up at 11am, DONT JUDGE ME.
Siege Suits sound fucking epic.
Unless i'm mistaken, it sounds like the overall concept of WvWvW seems to be similar to be an RTS-like system with resource gathering and upgrading fortifications and stuff, along with what sounds like spending those resources to build siege units. I think i might spend the rest of my life in WvWvW.
Take it already. I don't even want this money! Just take it!
After reading the longass pvp round table I'm totally sold on this game. Between GW2 and Tera I'm going to be set for a while.
Now I just need a plan to bring over all my WoW and TOR playing friends.
I encourage you to not read that roundtable but actually listen to the podcast version. I HATE MMO PvP with a passion. Yet the podcast has me excited to get back into the PvP aspect of things. Sure there are a lot of things I loved to hear from them. "Quick to pick up, difficult to master" was a theme they went over a bit. Three faction 2 week long, huge zoned, castle sieging, resource camp taking, vanilla WoW AV (the last time I liked PvP) all make me want this game right now.
Yet, it was none of the "meat" of the interview that really makes me want to play the game. It simply is the fact that the two developers that are being interviewed are so 100% genuinely in love with the game themselves. We see so much PR hype of the dev's and CMs of various other games (Rift, WoW, SWTOR) that want to make us think they actually play and love their game, but these guys do and it may be silly, but I would rather trust a dev that openly shows themselves loving and playing the game then hiding behind some CM that"says" they do.
It's the presentation. They're basically telling stories of what they've done in-game the way any player would, which comes across as a genuine word-of-mouth style endorsement. Shit's fun to play and you talk about it, and that's what these guys are doing. Now I'm just even more impatient for this thing to get released. If it's half as awesome as they make it sound, it will be a blast.
Yeah, but when was the last time we heard PR done in such a way? Sure as heck wasn't that way for lolSwtor and we know BlueHole/EME can't do PR for the life of them.
Warhammer Online was presented the same way, and it failed very hard. Mind you, half the shit the developers were talking about weren't actually in the game.
That's one thing I will give WAR, Paul Barnett could sell water to a fish.
I'll check out the podcast tonight. I'm already jazzed but don't mind getting more worked up. I agree that ArenaNet does a much better job of selling the game. I get this weird vibe off EME, as if they are embarrassed by the game or something.
One reason may be simply that games like Diablo 3, Guild War 2, and SWTOR are able to sell their games very well through various forms of media is because they have the money to do so. I am not sure how much EME has or how much NCSoft is helping if any at all. Also note that their PR department etc. may be much smaller. Another reason may be because outside of combat, there is very little else they can sell the game with. I mean sure everything else is polished and there are some areas that may have a tiny new twist here and there, but something major besides combat? I am not sure. One thing can be said though, they should be trying harder especially in 2012.
I don't want to get too hyped over this game but it is a day one Collector's Edition for me. I refuse to go to the website until they give a release date to avoid getting sucked into the black hole of hyped-ness. I think I visited the website once in 2011.
When is my heart transplant going to be ready Doctor?
Doctor: When its ready.
Jesus when are you arriving for the 2nd coming?
Jesus: When its ready.
Kim Jong-un when are you going to lose weight so we don't have to look at your fatty neck?
Kim: When its ready.
Arenanet and Skynet when are you going to join forces and be known as ArenaSkyNet and bring peace and prosperity to this land?
ArenaSkyNet: When I'm done. (Note in the future terms such as we us them they have been abolished)
Well it's very apparent that people at Arenanet are avid gamers and seem to be creating a game that is more than anything else just fun to play. I mean, what more is there? There was a post a while back here about subscription fees and how subscription MMOs are all designed around prolonging the time it takes to do things to extend your play time in hopes of keeping you subbed longer. GW2 is being built from the ground up without a subscription fee in mind, so there's no need to have a grind. They can just put a bunch of fun stuff to do and let the players go to town.
WAR was a better game than TOR currently is. I honestly will not be playing TOR beyond this month. Only reason I'm even playing it at all is because a friend bought it for me. I cannot wait until GW2 comes out. As it's been said, even if you don't enjoy it from the get go, you can try it every 3-6 months and see what's changed.
