I used to play blitzball in FFX while seeking all day, and sleep with my seacom up. I'd wake up the next morning to find that one or two lone JPs would invite me to a party, and would always message them if they were still online and apologize for being asleep. Funny how the JPs, with their rampant Xenophobia, were much more prone to picking up Drgs. All of that changed when ToAU came out, though.

Playing a DRG well and knowing the little things that set you apart from the others will get you more invites. Although playing RNG when RNG parties were all the rage was awesome as hell. Log in for the day and get 3 /tells before I even got the "Welcome to Unicorn" system message to display in chat.

What class did you play in XI? You could have hit 1-75 with bard in no time flat, or could have taken a year or two to hit 75 with a Drg or Thf. Its kind of relative to the class you played in XI, which is why I never liked to use XI as some sort of bridgepoint when talking about leveling.

GW2 is the type of game that's going to have a very similar leveling speed across all classes. Its not going to be exactly like XI where if you didn't have "just the right party class", you were doomed to ride the coattails of your friends and LSmates, and its not going to be like WoW where if you build an elite solo-build or play an elite solo class (like Hunter), you're going to fly ahead of others.

I actually ended up as a bard, but I did spend the first 2-3 months of my existence in XI as a Monk. Trying to get parties as a monk even right after NA launch sucked. Toss in my complete inability to be on between 1pm-10pm during the week when most English speakers were around ... I changed to bard and was able to get those parties with JPs desperate for a bard in under 5 minutes of flagging everynight. My point was more about the fact that I did not ever feel like I needed to rush to the cap in order to have fun. I actually hit 65 on my bard and waited for a dear friend to catch up and I was far from bored. Being able to get on and do Avatar fights, Missions, BCNM, level subjobs, all gave me more than enough to do every day I logged in even while waiting for what eventually was well over 2 months for my friend to go from 50-65.

Beta when? Tera is a nice change from the WoW drudgery but I wants GW2.

Speaking of which, is there any part of the community going back to GW1 and trying to get some Monuments for their Halls? I am interested in trying the game out, but feel completely worthless starting from scratch at this late date.

Beta for regular folks next month. Press beta is either gone or this weekend but expect info on the 20th. Im at 23 HOM, cant be bothered to go back, builds have changed alot since I played regularly.

I saw a wonderfully hopeful person speculate that Arenanet will give us a release date next week to accompany the slew of beta impressions coming from press folk next week. It would make sense that they would give a release date so people reading about the game would know when its coming out, but by that same logic i'm going to say its not gonna happen. It would make too much sense.

Also seeing as how press invites went out like the second day of February, it would seem like they are on schedule they gave in their new year blog post. I'm hoping this means we'll see beta weekends as early as the first weekend of March, maybe even late Feb. if they are as on track as they claim to be.

The way the game is set up I will honestly not recommend a controller, there many skills that are ground targeted that require quick placement. I really do not know if there are options this time for it as there was no controller in GW1.
