Anyone else going to be joining me in playing a Norn? I have a feeling I might be alone on launch day while everyone is rolling Asura and Charr.

Lol... I loved that... If you are serious however... I was referring to the WoW expansion. If you weren't well... that joke made my day.

I am not quite sure what I am going to roll. It will depend on how the "racials" come out for humans. We know very little about them thus far. I was leaning towards Norn Elementalist but I am Human has some appeal as well. Outside of the racials, you have a few things that differentiate the two races right? Character size, color palette and lore. As I will more than likely end up leveling up in the Asura/Sylvari area cause of my friend, the area means little. Anyone know if there are any Norn or Human specific character creation additions/limitations? A tattoo set, skin color limitations, hair, etc? Or if they are just basically the same with changes to size and dye palettes?

I'm pretty torn between Charr and Norn. I really think I'll roll Norn Guardian and Charr Warrior/Thief (for lulz on the second one). I really didn't like Charr at first but they added some awesome customization to them, so I can make them look really cool.

I don't even know what race I'm playing but I've settled on Mesmer for my class of choice. I'll probably decide release day when I'm staring at my choices and see which one I like best.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to choosing a race outside of aesthetics? I doubt it because of their philosophy on balance but what about home cities? Some shit are closer together then others like AH+mailbox+bank. Is there a reason to pick any race for the city ect?

Doubt we will know that until at least Beta starts. As to my knowledge the only city that has been actually shown off "area by area" is Divinity's Reach (Human City). The racial abilities are somewhat of a reasoning to choose between races, but even then, none of the ones that we know of are completely OP, and are merely "utility" that is only an optional choice as it is. Also remember you can make any city your "home" as you can use the Asura Gate system to go to Lion's Arch and then from there any other racial city at level 2 after you finish the tutorial. Yes, you will still need to do your personal story based in your racial home city, but you don't have to actually use it as your main city.

I honestly didn't know, I never had any interest in WoW. Is it funny because it's coming out around May?

Choosing a human because their story interests me the most. I liked the story involving Gwen in Guild Wars Prophecies and Eye of the North. Playing the story involving Logan, her descendant, interests me.

After I'm done that though, most likely a Norn. I like the whole Norse style culture.

For the longest time, while playing Eye of the North (Guild Wars 1), I was certain that on GW2's 'launch day,' I would be a Norn Mesmer (before even one profession was announced, lol). Now I'm leaning a bit toward a Sylvari Guardian. I'll probably play both, though... alongside a Charr Ranger, a Human Elementalist and an Asura Thief. ArenaNet will probably start us off with 4~6 character slots with 1 or 2 being added with any expansions if they include a new profession. I doubt I'll be an "altoholic"; I just need to determine which race/profession is my favorite, and I'll invariably stick with that one character.

Does anyone else get a feeling of impending doom every time they mention the possibility of a console version? After all the "PS2 limitations" crap in FFXI, I don't want to see GW2 get shackled with the ball and chain of having to maintain a console version.

XI was developed with a console in mind first at then just ported with an emulator, that's why the PC version was plagued by all the stuff. I doubt it we'd see a similar scenario here. Plus I bet ArenaNet has more competent designers

True enough, but I'm still worried that it could eventually hit a point where whatever console it's tied to will end up holding it back somehow whereas PC hardware is still capable of expanding. The goal of an MMO is (in theory) to design a game that can be played and updated/constantly evolving forever. Consoles cannot support that design pattern, whereas a PC is closer to being able to support it. There are always going to be limitations if the game survives long enough, but those limitations are apt to rear their ugly heads sooner when tied to the inflexible architecture of a console.

It might be a completely irrational fear on my part, but given how things played out with FFXI, it is not entirely unfounded. I have a lot more faith in ArenaNET than SE, but a console version just strikes me as a powerful limitation to impose on one's design flexibility.

I don't care as long as console is on a completely different network with their own updates their own servers and they leave me on my PC the fuck alone.

So long as they don't lock PC's features and content with that of the console there's no problem.

    http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-fergu...world-vs-world

We have amazing PvE gameplay and intense competitive PvP in Guild Wars 2, but we also offer huge, open-field, server-versus-server warfare the likes of which you’ve never seen. We call it world vs. world or WvW.
Hello, everyone, I’m Mike Ferguson, one of the systems designers here at ArenaNet. I’m here to tell you about one of the most eagerly anticipated aspects of Guild Wars 2: world vs. world! This is a huge game type, and there’s a lot to talk about, so get comfy!

I really wouldn't worry about it now. GW2 console version is about as real as the Diablo 3 console version. If we ever see it it won't be for a very very long time. Years.

I'm highly interested in the WvW or SvS pvp stuff. If they can pull it off like something similar from DaoC...it'll be epic.

WvW sounds nearly exactly like lineage 2 which isn't a surprise since both games are nc soft projects. Makes me really giddy for it.
