    AVG and internet woes.

    Short story
AVG told me I had to activate it, so I decided to reinstall free version. 8.5 version.

Installed over the 9.0 version, and rebooted. Now no internet.
Uninstalled AVG, and still cannot connect to internet.

    Any ideas?

Installing/uninstalling avg shouldnt kill your internet connection, well, not normally.

Check your cable, reboot your router/modem, use the "repair" command (found in setting --> control panel -> network connection -> right click on it).

Disable every firewall you might have just in case

It might just be your isp shitting on you at the worst time. It happened to me before

Are you using firefox or Internet explorer?

I'm not near a pc right now so I can't check the exact location, but there's an option to restore IE's defaults somewhere in the Internet advanced options which has restored Internet access to pc's and laptops that have had their security program messed around with.

Firefox should have a similar option somewhere. Have a poke around and let us know the results.

Is there anyway for you to confirm it's just you or that specific machine? Assuming it's a network or there are other computers to test connectivity with.

Also, it's a shot in the dark but was there a system restore checkpoint put in place before this all happened? If it is somehow related to AVG it's worth a shot. Sometimes you get lucky with Windows automatically setting a point before a big software install.

Well my connection on my laptop is fine and everything. I am trying a system restore right now.
Some other info, I have the windows defender off, and window firewall off as well.

Well I restored it to a certain point, and now have internet back. Going to try to reinstall AVG again.

That is so fucking bizarre, I really wonder what caused it. I'm surprised you're reinstalling at all. I've give serious consideration to switching to either Avast, Avira or Microsoft Security Essentials, have tried all 3 and have been more than satisfied with them. Or a cracked version of ESET.

It was indeed really weird. But i googled and a lot of other people have had this problem as well.
I tried installing AVG again, this time a cracked pro version, still same thing, no internet. So restored, and now going to install Avast.

Have you tried running combofix after installing AVG? I find that it will fix most issues with "no internet" when all IP settings are correct.

Well Avast slowed down my computer a shit ton, so uninstalled, and installed AVG again, no problems so far.

lol, I was going to mention that while Avast is rock solid it's also probably the heaviest resource-wise.

I'd recommend running Microsoft Security Essentials and leave Malwarebytes' Antimalware on your machine. MSE actually had a very good detection rate when I was trying it.
