Going there to mess around for new years. Anyone been/live there that can tell me some dos/donts about the place. Any good night spots besides the ones you get from those shitty travelers guides? And how bad is it with the french up there? They gonna dip their balls in my soup if i dont try to order in french?

My folks at saintwoods.com rip shit it up in MTL and Toronto if you're into d&b, house type stuff. The city is ok with the french stuff, it's when you get outside of the city that the snobiness shows.

I'd recommend checking out their FB group, they post a lot of events on there.

I can't really help with the first question, but english shouldn't be an issue if you don't leave montreal. You will receive services in english (occasionally broken english) nearly everywhere. If you go outside, the probability that you encounter certain specimen who refuse to learn english is higher, but it should be manageable.

Honestly though, if you go out, dont forget to tip. They wont hesitate to bitch you out for leaving no tip/a stingy tip. Downtown either on St. Laurent or Crescent is most of the clubs, new yrs eve probably gonna be all of downtown.

I love Montreal! One of my most favouritest cities in the whole wide world! I only speak a tiny bit of French but most people in downtown Montreal speak English or at least most businesses have at least one person who speaks English usually present.

Where are you going to stay? I would highly recommend the YWCA (note the W) just below St. Catherine street. Very nice place, like a hotel really, cheap and close to everything.

86% of Montrealer's speak English. You don't need to worry about the language issue.

As for party spots, I like the St. Catherine's as its the main road, but you could end up getting hit with a lot of touristy crap. As for day stuff, I'd hit up the old Montreal and see the one museum that goes deep underground showing off old artifacts from native American history - its very interesting.

If your on a budget the strip clubs are actually a bargain (im not shitting you). Almost every single one has a buffet section in which you can get free food, and for the most part you don't have to pay any cover or buy anything else.

Im gonna be staying at Le Westin Montreal. It seemed alright, a bit on the expensive side but going 50/50 on room with 2 beds isnt to bad. Thats funny about the strip clubs, ill def check it out.

I went to Montreal for spring break a bunch of times before I turned 21; you should have a great time. Sooo many great bars to go to up there lol. Def look for Mad Hatters, I loved that place. I wish that I could remember the names of more bars to go to, but it's been awhile. Besides that, take a cab everywhere as it will be more than 9000 degrees below zero outside.

Other than downtown, there's not all that much to see really. La banquise is a must really, not the best poutine around but you'll get a taste for what it's like

I'm not super knowledgeable in the bars and such... if you're with a girl or more you could go to the Syndrome they get a shitload of free drinks on the house just for being there.
Other than that I go to Cafe Campus occasionnaly but meh... anyway have fun, it's a nice city.
