Did you get bant after your post?
Did you get bant after your post?
I kind of figured it was.
Okay, I don't know what the hell is going on, but the Dust 514 and EVE forums are down, and Tranquility went down just a few minutes ago. Something's going down.
Maybe they pulled the plug because you're a whiner! THANKS YOU RUINED IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!
Yeah, that'll be the day. Back when people were saying this game had problems since day 1, I was still in CCP fanboy mode defending Dust. After realizing how screwed up things have been, I've pointed out contradictory posts to Devs and CPM members alike. Maybe they're not used to constructive criticism from someone who knows what they're talking about because the forums just went back up and I got banned for that post.
Edit: It wasn't for that post, it was for an unrelated post from people bad mouthing how the Templar event was set up. Looks like a lot of people from that thread got banned too. Careful CCP, you're approaching Capcom territory...

At 02:05 GMT June 2nd, CCP became aware of a significant and sustained distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) against the Tranquility cluster (which houses EVE Online and DUST 514) and web servers.
Our policy in such cases is to mobilize a taskforce of internal and external experts to evaluate the situation. At 03:07 GMT, that group concluded that our best course of action was to go completely offline while we put in place mitigation plans.
While we initially reopened EVE Online and DUST 514, we have since re-evaluated. With the highest sense of precaution we have taken Tranquility and associated websites back down for further investigation and an exhaustive scan of our entire infrastructure. We will update you more frequently via our Twitter feed (www.twitter.com/eveonline), however, an extended service interruption of several hours is expected as this process should not be rushed.
Incoming skillpoint refunds.
Looks like they seriously pissed someone off.
It's not the first time it's happened. LulzSec did it summer last year.
Servers went back up... only to go down for maintenance 15 minutes later. On the bright side, it's rumored they're going to finally nerf the TAC AR today, so here's hoping it's true. But fused locus grenades are supposed to be selling on the market for ISK too, so I got mixed feelings about all of this. Thank god I'm not a scout though, I'd probably be taking an extended break if I were.
http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/05/eve-...ddos-downtime/In compensation for an outage of several hours, CCP will award EVE Online players 50,000 skill points.
In an announcement post, CCP noted that the weekend downtime, which was caused by a surgical response to a DDoS attack campaign, is the longest downtime the MMO has experienced in “quite a while”; not bad, considering it lasted less than a day.
“As a result CCP has decided to give everyone 50,000 unallocated skill points. The cause of the downtime was a malicious attack on our servers but nevertheless we want to make sure that all our players walk away with uninterrepted skill training plans,” the developer said.
“The skill points were distributed during today’s deployment of EVE Online: Odyssey and all active accounts were eligible, barring trial accounts.”
This is the second incident of mass skill point rewards in a few weeks. CCP offers a guide to spending skill points for those wondering what to do with this bounty, and also reminds players to check out the rebalancing applied in Odyssey before investing in ship skills.
For more information on the attack, CCP has a statement from its COO and reminds the community that it offers PLEX for snitches.

Dust is Driving up PS3 Saleshttp://www.vg247.com/2013/06/07/ccp-...eloper-claims/CCP believes a demographic it describes as ‘DUST 514-curious’ are buying PlayStation 3 consoles specifically to play the free-to-play shooter.
“We already see that Dust 514, during open beta, had been driving hardware sales for Sony,” CCP business development vice president Thor Gunnarsson told Destructoid.
“We actually track that together. We know that our fan base, Dust-curious players, are buying the PlayStation 3 to get into our game.”
Gunnarsson doesn’t believe the imminent arrival of the PlayStation 4 will throw obstacles in CCP’s plans to have DUST 514 last at least five years.
“What we hear, anecdotally, is that PS3 sales are increasing. Sony have done a phenomenal job of managing console transitions, like they did with the PlayStation 2′s cost and size reductions,” he said.
“We can make the logical assumption that something similar will happen as the PlayStation 4 comes to market. If you look at the large third-party publishers, you’ll see that Sony is not falling away from the PlayStation 3. What about Grand Theft Auto V? It took Square Enix years to come to the PlayStation 3.”
DUST 514 shares a shard with EVE Online, and the two games economies interact; EVE Online players can even support DUST 514 allies by dropping orbital strikes on opposing factions during contracts.

That EVE Universe: Origins video makes me sad. Such a good trailer, shows the huge potential of the EVE universe. And then you actually play the games... and theyre both so... lacking.
So, I was on the Dust Forums not too long ago and starting posting in a topic about Dust 514 moving to the PS4. Somehow the discussion turned to the possibility of Carbon running on the PS4. Judging by how fast the mods deleted all posts about Carbon, I think we figured out CCP's endgame. If this is true, I'll gladly open my wallet and tell them "Take as much as you want."
I agree. Carbon would get DUST looking like Destiny promo reels. It wouldn't be too surprising. Getting Carbon on PS4 means they can reduce need on UE3 (maybe) AND stick World of Darkness on PS4 in addition to DUST (definitely).
The issue is maintaining split codebases for PS3 and PS4 versions of DUST, they're going to need more hires for that, and they're gonna need more than the 5-10k concurrent players we've got at the moment to manage that. (I've a similar concern for XIV, but at least that means I won't be Adoulin-ed like with XI and PS2.)
If they sunset the PS3 version it helps, but if that happens in the next couple of years, there are going to be some salty motherfuckers.
I was at the LA event last night/this morning. The only serious DUST dev there was Atli, no Brandon, Eino, etc. It was mainly PR people and the EVE VR crew, but I did get to talk to about a dozen CCPers, I might have heard something of interest, so ask away and maybe you'll get lucky.
I can say though, I voiced all my concerns, and came away pretty rosy about the future of the game.
Interesting about the Carbon-on-ps4 bit. EVE itself runs on Carbon now, so we might even see EVE having a ps4 version. Which would be... interesting. Especially if they ever open the station doors.
