We'll probably never see EVE on PS4 because honestly, it would defeat the purpose of having Dust in the first place. But having both games on the same engine would actually flesh out that EVE involvement they've been trying to sell. Last I checked, there is no EVE involvement and the involvement that does exist is easily negated by having a warbarge available in PC battles. There's no MMO aspect of Dust to speak of since everything is one-sided to the benefit of EVE. That's why Chronos is bowing out of PC and even the top alliances like Negative Feedback and STB are saying it's a waste of time. This game needs more to set it aside from a lobby shooter that's just a spinoff of EVE Online.

Carbon is really the answer to everything right now because like you said, just being able to walk around the station with EVE players would go a long way and the tip of the iceberg for interactions between both games. Right now CCP has Dust and EVE drinking from separate water fountains.

So I decided to try this, and omg i can't hit anyone to save my life ... and when I do i rarely get past shields ... yet I seem to die in 2-4 regular machine gun bullets and cant even turn around when i respond to a "where damage is coming from" indicator. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not much of an FPS player and I'm not to great when I do play them, but I know what my overall batting average is in every other FPS is, so to speak, yet I'm not even hitting that mark. I dunno if its just the whole fact that this is with a controller as opposed to PC mouse gaming, but I often can't keep a target in sight and often "overadjust" OR use L1 and cant turn fast enough. Oh, but the icing on the cake is I went and got one of those grenade launchers and I hit even LESS with that ... I think I've gotten 2 kills in 6 matches using it. I really really don't understand.

Someone tell me I'm doing something wrong ... either that or I'm gonna go play some Borderlands or UT2004 and confirm that my motor skills aren't suddenly gone.

There are currently code bugs with explosive weapons (Mass Drivers, Flaylocks, Grenades). There are aiming issues (and I personally believe some hit detection ones) that they're still working on, they weren't there last build (Chromosome), but popped up in this one (Uprising). You can go into options to change controller sensitivities. Try 0, 50, and 100 for about half a dozen matches each with an assault rifle. (I personally have my controller's X&Y set to 40, but I snipe and need slow sticks for head/pixel accuracy.)
DUST also supports keyboard and mouse so if that's your preferred mode, find a PS3 compatible bluetooth set, or plug some USB ones into your PS3's ports.

We were hoping most of these issues get improvements in the Uprising 1.2 patch, but this dropped today https://forums.dust514.com/default.a...196#post954196

So in the mean time these are your options.

    1. Turn and respond doesn't work in DUST generally. If you're taking fire, you go evasive and run for cover, THEN turn around to the source. The only other thing is to work on your situational awareness, the HUD radar only goes 10 meters, and most handheld weapons have optimals way beyond that. Just see the other guy before they see you. Alternately, run in a squad that stays together, but that doesn't work so well for casual play unless you are part of a large and competent corp that can constantly handle squad pop-ins.

    2. Spend SP into the armor and shield amount passive skills (Shield Upgrades and Armor Upgrades) and or stack some shield and armor modules on your suit (including using better ones through Shield Extension and Armor Plating.)

    3. Spend SP into Handheld Weapon Upgrades so you can fit and stack 10% complex damage modules (You may also need some Dropsuit Electronics for more CPU, or go for an advanced tier suit.), and into the [Specific Weapon] Proficiency skill for better damage.

(And for the record, I haven't played much for a month, since Uprising 1.1 I'm having issues with the gameplay too, and will likely stay on hiatus until 1.3, but I've by no means given up on the game. The joy of passive SP.)

So after playing for several hours last night, I managed to really collect my thoughts and realize what two massive problems I have with the game.

    1) Aim: So I decided to really pay much more attention to the mechanics now that I'm not spending as much time figuring out how the game actually works, how to turn on chat, blah blah. In the end, and these may be things you refer to being fixed in the next patch, I had two major aiming gripes. First, in normal aiming mode, using a PS3 controller made me aim like this oddly appropriate video someone posted in the YouTube Thread (skip to 1:02).

Using a mouse wasn't much better because apparently they force locked the ability to turn to a low speed, so that I often have to pick up my mouse and shift it over to continue following someone as opposed to just rotating my hand and getting a much larger arc. Sensitivity maxed helped a little, but I actually went back to controller. Second, iron sights mode is plain unusable unless you're at long range, and even then it usually incapable of being used well.

    B) Player Gear/Attribute gap: OK, I actually managed to completely forget about the aiming issues with how much this got to me yesterday. Now while Dust works exactly like I expected, with its EVE skill trees and meta levels of gear, I honestly expected a maxed out player to be 50% better than a new character ... maybe 60-100% on RL cash gear. I mean, this is an FPS, not an MMO. I'm not selecting to enter a "level 30 battleground" to play with people of my level. In addition, its not like I can see "oh hey, that's a destroyer, I better get my frigate ass out of here." like in EVE. Instead I'm finding people that seem to have a 500-1000% advantage over me which is ridiculous. And don't get me wrong, I know they need to cater to both leveling addicts AND to incentivise Aurum sales but that's too big of a gap. You need to actually be able to kill someone no matter how good their stats/gear are. Cases in point:

My first WTF moment was when I respawned directly behind a crouching non-moving enemy. I literally had all the opportunity to point my laser at him and just hold down fire. I nearly overheated the gun dropping his shield to 33% and he just turn around and fires a single machine gun burst into me, dropping me like a bad habit.

Moment number two was clearly my first encounter with a truly maxed out player (looks like most of the opposing team was a single corp). I came up behind him while he was hacking an objective, rolled my Militia grenade at his feet, and unleashed my laser the second it detonated. He literally just ignored me and finished his hack before proceeding to walk around to the back of the objective while I now started missing him now that he was moving. While I reloaded, he turned around and iced me ... and as I dropped I noticed he was already regenning his shields rapidly during my reload. When I respawned, I encountered him again a minute or so later, this time with 2 teammates already firing at him. He just stood there, not evading while he just turned to each of us calmly and put 3 corpses on the ground. We didn't break his shield that time either.

Now, its possible that in a few weeks the skill gap will go away as I get the free armor/shield/damage potential from skills and maybe use more than T1 and Militia gear ... but didn't CCP learn from EVE with the old learning skills? Starting a game should not require you to AFK for the first month while your character gets to the "minimum level to participate" threshold. The only improvement over the old "wait a month to play" from EVE is the fact that even my totally incompetent gameplay still earns me active XP/ISK and lets me at least practice I guess.

Your experience with the guy who can eat a grenade and a full clip with np seems odd. I can have on a proto logi suit with multiple shield boosts and still be killed by a militia assault rifle if caught by surprise.

Remember their name by any chance?

Well, I can't speak to everything else, but laser rifles don't work at close ranges. icr what it is atm, but it only deals respectable damage once you're out past a minimum range.
If you watch any of CEOPyrex's lazor videos, you'll notice him switching to SMG or whatever sidearm if he isn't at range.

Honestly no. I kinda just walked away from the game after that to go ponder the futility of my attempts to not end a match with a K/D ratio of 0.2 or less

For reference it was a Militia Grenade, as I haven't skilled that yet, and a Basic non-militia Laser weapon which I was using (I'm merely level 1 just to unlock them).

Also, and this honestly isn't a complaint, as I did it too just to try it out ... but fuck people who sit in the MCC and snipe people. I spent an entire match trying to take a pair of these jokers out ... they finished 38/0 and 24/0 respectively and had a LoS on a spawn point on whatever map I was on .. was like fish in a barrel for em. Of course my attempt did not go nearly as well since I was unskilled using a militia rifle and needed 2-4 hits on people just to drop em.

    Edit:

Wait, really? I didn't see any Min/Optimal/Max ranges listed on the guns. This is sounding like PPCs in Mechwarrior online, which may explain a whole frikkin lot. I just assumed, as long as the weapon could hit at a given distance, damage was exactly equal to what it said in the stats screen.

This is kind of why I'm not playing. Every game I've played in there have been snipers camping the spawn point. As soon as you take two steps out of cover you're already dead. How is that fun?

No, they aren't listed in game at the moment, we got the numbers through testing.
Also, the laser rifle is really the only one that performs like that (well, besides swarms and their launch distance), and they haven't really implemented a falloff/reduction function for other weapons past their optimal yet.

Also, you aren't supposed to be able to snipe from inside the MCC. If you can get on top of it yes, but not through the field barrier. (Though there was this one time I jumped out and somehow immediately landed on a ventral MCC turret)

EDIT: Oh, and turn speed is based on suit frame size (And the in game limit is god. Controller, KBM, or PS Move*, doesn't matter). Light/Scouts turn much quicker than Large/Sentinels.
*[Though, as long as you don't hit the edges of the screen to turn, I think on screen aiming is a bit advantaged to the Move, but actually rotating and moving around the map is terrible.]

You totally can, and you get a birds eye view of 50-75% of most battlefields. Honestly, the only thing keeping it in check is all of the cover and buildings. And against a good enemy sniper, you will never get a view up into their ship to kill them before they drop you first.

Damage falloff outside of optimal is there, it's just not drastic enough to be noticed.

Long story short, Dust 514 is pretty broken right now and CCP is giving off the impression that they're more concerned with additional content than fixing core FPS mechanics. I'm not surprised since they've been watering down everything FPS related since they nerfed strafing. At this point, they might as well make battles turn based. Best thing you can do is switch your display to 480p to avoid most of the input lag, turn off PSN notifications, and do a full reset after every hour or 10 battles, whichever comes first.
I haven't played in a while either because of the Mass Driver bug and the overall frustration with why it was nerfed in the first place. Add that to the whole skill respec fiasco, and I'd rather not log in, even to AFK farm out of spite. I had hopes for 1.2 resolving these issues, but I might sit out until 1.3 as well. This is probably why they didn't want to have 100% passive SP.

Is this really a thing? I had massive lag one fight until my entire machine slowed to a crawl and I couldn't access the XMB, so I did a system reset. Did they seriously include a massive memory leak or something?

Edit: Also, unrelated question. Since, unlike EVE, you don't set a skill ... does the passive XP just run eternally without needing periodic logon? Does it have a cap and I need to spend some every now and then? Or can I just walk away for a few months to check out whatever patches they apply and just drop a few million EXP into stuff?

The last one. It's why I always tell people to make a character, so you'll be ahead (well, not so far behind anyways) when you do decide to play, either by whim or the game becoming epic.
You'll still be outpaced by anyone hitting the active cap each week, and/or using a booster. (A capped, boosted player will be seeing just over 1 mil SP every 4 weeks, not counting any passive. )

Kinda why I quit EVE ... they had such a long history of never going back and fixing broken systems or overly nerf batting things which often had unintended consequences to other things.

Yeah, they seriously have no idea what they're doing. In CCP's defense, they had another game engine that Dust 514 was supposed to run on but had to scrap it at the last minute and use the U3 engine and learn as they went. Still, it's no excuse for releasing a game with so many bugs and glitches.

So I guess the best thing to do here would be to let my character afk skill up in his one room apartment ... wait a year(??) or so til its on PS4 using a newer engine(??) and with *hopefully* lots of patches and improvements to our gripes .... maybe?

A year may not be necessary, and it's NOT going to be on PS4 that fast anyway.
The engine isn't the problem, otherwise Chromosome would have been unplayable, they just buggered a few things up, just keep an eye on the thread, we'll be talking about it when things get better.

I was just making completely baseless guesses ... I'm sure I'll notice this thread when it's bumped. In the mean time, I may just screw around with the sniper rifle ... I actually get a few kills with those.
