It feels way too late to get into EVE to me, but goddamn if this isn't a cool idea.

I've tried multiple times to get into EVE, and have had horrible results each time. I really wanted to like it but CCP seems to do a great job of making the learning curve a learning wall. This is one of those things that would lure me into trying again and I'm sure i'll be met with the same wall of not knowing what I should be doing.

The only thing really stopping me, is that my laptop can't run the damn game. All this knowledge I've got is mainly from dredging through the wikis in prep for DUST. At this point, the only thing I don't know if I can do is actually controlling the damned ships in game. I'm as confident in my ability to get by as I am with FFXI.
Basically, nowadays there exists a ramp up that wall, you just need to be patient enough to find it and not be so anti-research to use it. If I could play, I'd even be willing to help out BGers get into it.

Hell, if it weren't for the fact they're looking at changing datacores to faction warfare, I'd even be confident I could make a passive selfsus account within a few months.

As a long time EVE player, I can say for sure it isn't a game meant for everyone. This graph really gives a good impression of what it seems at the start of your EVE career. If you just want a game that you can mindlessly grind through and "win" at whilst watching TV, you will most likely be one of those first corpses impaled on the pikes there. If you accept the seemingly impossible challenge set before you, and are a somewhat competent person, you can make it a bit further, as long as you take part in the community aspect of the game.

There are plenty of people who are more than willing to help teach new players about the game, and it disappoints me to hear so many people say they gave up early on, without ever taking part in the social aspects, Corporations. The whole game is based on community. Without that, you will be missing a crucial part of the EVE online experience.

DUST 514 Closed Beta Invitation: Suit up, merc!

Started the download before I went to work (1.5gigs plus a 1.6 gig update).

I'm hoping this is a newer build then the one I played at Fanfest.

Basic video for people who haven't been following, but still.

    Here's a fresh interview

    Takeaways
But i see a lot of PS3 players who are eager to know when they will get the chance to lay their hands on that holy beta. Can you give a bit of info about this to the poor fellows out there ? Will there be an open Beta after the E3 ? Will a PSN+ subscription grant an early access ?
Brandon Laurino: There will be tons of opportunities to get in, with more and more over the summer. There will be lots of things individuals can do to ensure a spot as well.

Brandon Laurino: We’ll have ways for individuals to craft something, and bigger, more complex stuff that will take group effort. Yes, we think we will see a huge amount of player crafting and selling on the market – but, ultimately, it’s up to the players.
[Cantih: I'm guessing some major items may be made akin to how player built outposts work.]

I noticed that weapons are some kind of modules that you set when fitting your dropsuit. Still, can we customize weapons: like adding a sound suppressor or a specific iron sight, or a handle ?
Brandon Laurino: We have a huge variety of weapons where you can get that range of customization. As far as full on Tech 3, that’s for the future.

Dust514-France: Finally, should we expect some more surprises before the game is released? Like super secret stuff we haven’t heard about yet ? Come on, tease us !
Brandon Laurino: Of course! Despite the tons of info we’ve put out lately, there’s still so much more. We’ve been metering what we talk about very carefully
Also, if we have enough people once access starts opening up, a passable corp name occurred to me

I hate people, personally. But it's damn hard to get anything done in this universe by yourself. With that in mind, I've recently hired a number of highly trained... I can't say that with a straight face. Bums. I hired bums.
    Go pick up my bums.

Got my closed beta invites. Game looks pretty good, but I haven't gotten to the actual gameplay yet. Just looking through menus and systems and whatnot. Passive skill training doesn't exist, which I guess makes sense since EVE is a subscription based game and DUST isn't. You earn skillpoints in battle, like exp. More as I work my way through.

Edit: Nvm, you DO get passive skillpoints. You just don't need to select a skill. They accrue automatically (At least when you're online. Maybe even when you're offline too) and are added to your unallocated skillpoint pool.

Holy shit vehicle controls suck ass.

Hmm, maybe they're not that bad. It goes from dual stick movement (on foot) to single stick movement, which is disorienting as fuck, but I guess if you're in a vehicle that has a turret, that would be useful. Anyway, after playing a couple games, thus far the game feels... unfinished. But, since it IS unfinished, that's okay. The physics are a little... goofy... and the graphics are plain. The various turrets and structures and objectives are unclear at first, though I would imagine they'll have a tutorial for actual launch.

Yeah. I dunno if every EVE account got one, or if I'm just lucky, but I got one for each of two my accounts. I gave the extra to my friend.

    Lucky dude.
Well, next weekend maybe. Or perhaps they'll give out codes to the E3 party attendees.

DUST 514 will be fully integrated into PlayStation Home, starting at E3. Debuting as part of Sony's Virtual E3 Experience, the DUST 514 Home Space is a way for users to get up close and personal with the New Eden universe. In addition, the first 10,000 visitors to the DUST 514 Home Space will be able to get "All Access" beta keys, guaranteeing them access to all the DUST 514 beta events over the summer. The DUST 514 Space will remain live and accessible to players throughout the summer, and Home users can expect additional beta keys to be distributed via the Home Space in the future.

Buu, I beat the game and watched the videos, but didn't get a code afterwards (checking the recruiter, or the main video room, etc.)
Guess they're all out of codes =\

Slay is pretty fun, if a bit simple.

EDIT: Tried it again, GOT ONE! The code was at the right kiosk (left if coming from the video room.)
Also, shit, If it's not too large tomorrow, I may aim for the top of the Slay leaderboard, Grideris only has 5 atm.
