There are still codes apparently. I logged into the space after be frustrated last night & was given one upon re-entering.
Ok BG (like, all of BG, not just the dudes who main this thread)
You should try to get into the beta, but if it's too much bother, fair enough. (And the beta atm is not full featured, it is a REAL™ Beta, not a marketing beta. So if you want to preserve your hype, maybe wait.)
BUT, when it does go open/releases, really play it for a bit. Because, holy shit.
Early builds.
I couldn't get into E3, but one of the devs had footage of that build on his phone and showed it to me at the party, it gets way better, Soon™.
I didn't get to mention what I'm about to say, but we talked about the NDA a bit, and the really hard thing about it is not being able to share all this cool shit with you guys.
"Soon™" describes about 50% of the current features. It can be fun, but it's horribly unbalanced & laggy to hell in it's current build. Also, in the beta notes it mentions that reporting bugs while in-game will crash it. Didn't test that, but quiting the game and/or updating it will sign you out of PSN.
Yeah, it's definitely a beta. It's getting better each weekend, though.
I thought i posted here but it must have been another forum. The progress they have made during the beta is pretty impressive. Just remember, the game is in beta. I think alot of the concepts they have for the game are good. It is just going to matter on how fast they can implement them.
i cant wait till you can actually play with friends and join people on your contact list.
this game is really fucking fun and i cant wait till it actually becomes a full game because so far this game is awesome. also i die a lot more in this game then i usually do.. but it seems to always be against heavies more often then not, but once they balance those kinds of things i think this game will be a great F2P game.
and heard that people that are in the beta get to keep some of their skill points they accumulated so i guess its worth going through all the bugs and freezes
yeah, shock trooper has no equal atm, sniper lacks ammo & decent places to shoot from (only on the command center zones), and front line seems all around, but their health & shields are ffxi ninja paper thin. I've been enjoying the team based capture maps vs. the kill maps. On the kill maps I barely last 10 seconds from spawning, but I feel I'm decent on the capture ones. I like that people are finally getting the jist of who to & not to shoot. Those TK's really hurt morale.
Mmm, I've heard otherwise. Or rather, they're on the fence on which way to go.
I suggested, if they fall on the side of giving beta testers perks, don't let them keep skill points, but rather hand out free 7 day boosters equivalent to time in beta or whatever stage of beta they want to level things at.
Since boosters don't work on passive skill gain (afaik), the beta people would get higher than average skill gain, but they'd have to keep playing to get it.
Also, careful wording and topics you guys, they are taking the NDA seriously, and breaches make Praetorian a sad panda.

High-end gear in Dust 514 costs 24 cents in real money
CCP Vice President Morgan Godat has revealed the real-world cost of a high-end set of gear in the upcoming EVE Online companion, Dust 514, and it might be cheaper than you expect: About 24 cents. If you were to equip a character in the game with some of the highest-level gear out there and send them out into battle with equipment all purchased directly with real money, it would really only cost you a cent less than a quarter.
But that figure is a little misleading, unfortunately, on both ends. On the one hand, that's the cost to equip a character once. When you die (which you'll do a lot in the match-based first-person shooter), you'll have to rebuy all of that gear, so players will probably buy their guns and armor by the hundreds or even thousands, not just one set at a time.
And just like EVE Online, most of the gear in the game will be purchasable with in-game cash, called Isk, not just real-money purchased gold, called Aurum. EVE Online players will even be able to buy gear for Dust 514 players, so if you're a great shooter some ship jockey might fund your gear bill once the two games are finally connected. Dust 514 is currently heading into a series of betas (so these costs are still in flux anyway), and readying itself for a launch later this year.
Of course, unless you manage a truly impressive KDR, you'll be looking at one to two dollars per match. That'll add up after a few hours.
All hail militia fits!
I'm not great, but I do think I've managed to become not shit at shootin. I've managed to go from 0-3/5-7 to 1.0 ratios.
(Also, has anyone else's quick reply text entry box turned white?)
It should be mentioned that paying with RL money is completely optional. You can buy anything with in-game money; ISK.
sup bane
Well, [NDA], but yeah, it'll still cost though.
Chillin, killin. Been playing a lot of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, updating EVE skillqueues, raging at Halo. I contemplate picking up XI again once a week or so, which means I probably will sometime in the next few months.
But yeah, the improved gear will cost you, but there will always be a free tier of gear, just like in EVE you can always get a free noobship, so you'll always be able to play, even if you're broke in-game and in RL. In DUST, the free (Or rather, infinite-supply) gear is the Militia stuff. Actually, pretty much everything aside from the fact that you're playing a FPS is very similar to EVE. Fitting is very similar, market is similar, skills are similar, attitude is similar. Hopefully CCP won't stomp me for saying they're doing a good job of replicating the New Eden meta-combat systems.
Yeah, I can't wait to see if we get more of the more interesting EVE modules as dropsuit versions.
Shield NOS guns, go!
http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06...ercenary-pack/
So, if you can't get a beta invite from the Home space (or EVE, or the email lotto), you can hit up that.
For those already in, the pack gives you the same amount of aurum as a straight $20 pack would give you (the final amount may change, the PSN USD/Aurum values don't match the EVE USD/Aurum CCP announced last week.) So if you were gonna toss some bucks anyway, (and Aurum gotten during beta is given back to you at full launch, so no worry there)
The 30 day skill booster would cost [NDA], so it's a pretty good addition.
The x50 gear, dunno. If it's only available from the pack, and is any good, may want to hold them to sell for ISK down the line.
Big draw is the suit and SMG, both are BPOs, you never lose them/run out. Depends on their stats compared to militia gear, but that may be worth it alone, non-militia BPOs might be hard to come by.
Also, yeah, new build up, get updating.
"You're invited to the DUST 514 beta this weekend! (ends Monday)"
Nah bro I want in a real beta. Got other things to do anyways.
The closed beta has been for 4 days each weekend since E3.
Oh.
