I don't see a borderline playoff team wouldn't play harder. A team with nothing to lose is probably already looking towards next year and won't risk a franchise player for the sake of playing spoiler. I guess you could look at the Giants/Pats game in Week 16 as an exception, but you don't see that often.

More supporting evidence that Carolina is far too ignorant of an organization to land Cowher:

Just heard about this on the NFL network. Looks like it's going to be 2007 all over again.

Tony Romo will do anything to avoid another December slide, even if that means conjuring up some painful memories from January past.

The Cowboys used Romo as their holder for field goal kicks in Wednesday's practice.

"We feel like we need to do something, whether it's the whole operation itself or some of the parts,'' head coach Wade Phillips said. "We've got to get more confidence from our kicker. We need to do better. There's a possibility we'll make a change this week as far as the holder is concerned.''

The usual holder, punter Matt McBriar, has mishandled a few snaps lately and kicker Nick Folk has been struggling. Backup quarterback Jon Kitna has never held in his career.

Phillips once joked when he took the Cowboys job that Romo was "retiring" from holding. McBriar even said as much during the 2007 season while lauding Romo's ability to bounce back from his famous botched snap.

"Everybody thought it might be something Tony couldn't dance back from," McBriar said. "But they don't realize that Tony's not in the league to be a holder and he'll probably never be a holder again."

We can't kill the Cowboys for possibly making the change. Addressing the issue makes more sense than hoping it magically disappears.

Of course, Romo hasn't held on kicks since that fateful day in Seattle.

At least he knows the footballs won't be extra slick for this week's home game.

Kinda shitty actually since both the dolphins and jets need the ravens to lose another game, and the steelers were the best left on their schedule. Steelers were already out if either team runs the table.

Living in Pittsburgh is so much fun when the Steelers lose. It's like the city died last night. Now all the ignorant fans who kept saying they are going to turn it around finally have to acknowledge that the Steelers are finished this year. It makes me laugh my ass off. Mother fucker, you let Cleveland sack your quarterback eight times. CLEVELAND! EIGHT TIMES!!

Unfortunately when the Steelers do poorly that means that all of the bandwagon Penguins fans will start watching more Penguins games.
